Friday, March 4th, the Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls play for the second of four scheduled occasions. Milwaukee won the initial meeting 94-90 on January 21st. Milwaukee will host on March 22nd and Chicago on April 5th.
The Bucks last played on Wednesday capturing a dramatic 120-119 win versus the Heat while the Bulls played the front side of a back-to-back losing 124-130 to the Hawks.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Bucks winning two of the three contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Bucks in 132 of their 256 matches
Milwaukee Bucks
Although the Bucks don’t need to produce statement games as the defending champions it’s worthwhile to remind elite opponents of who they are. And that’s precisely what they did on Wednesday by erasing a double-digit deficit and winning in clutch time versus the Heat.
Two questionable no-calls down the stretch occurred with Giannis Antetokounmpo seemingly pushing Jimmy Butler to the ground on the inbound.
Jrue Holiday committed the more obvious foul using his arm to deliver a hard push on Gabe Vincent who fell from the force which cleared a path to the bucket and an easy score for what would be the game-winning bucket.
Yet it wasn’t the fouls that ultimately mattered, it was the fact the Bucks trailed by 14 points with 7:12 remaining but outscored the Heat 21 to seven to close the game.
It served as a reminder that this Bucks squad never gives up regardless of the time left in the match. That said, if Kyle Lowry is playing it’s doubtful Holiday gets away with that push-off – not with Lowry’s reputation for taking charges.
Nor is it likely he turns over the ball – something Tyler Herro did three times in that timeframe.
Regardless, it sets up an intriguing playoff matchup that fans should hope comes to pass in the postseason.
George Hill (neck) is questionable for Friday. Pat Connaughton (finger) and Brook Lopez (back) are out indefinitely.
Chicago Bulls
The top of the East is shifting again with the Bucks defeating the Heat and the Cavaliers slumping. The top four seeds are separated by 3.5 games and the top six by five games.
Chicago didn’t help themselves with the loss to the Hawks. After winning six in a row behind the herculean efforts of DeMar DeRozan two consecutive losses dropped them to third.
That means this game just took on greater importance as a Bucks win would push them ahead of the Bulls and drop Chicago to fourth.
DeRozan and Zach LaVine each scored 22 points and combined for 10 rebounds plus 15 assists while Nikola Vucevic produced a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to the Hawks.
Ultimately free throws won the game for Atlanta as they inexplicably got to the line 28 times compared to SEVEN for the Bulls. To put into perspective how crazy that variance is DeRozan averages eight free throws per game (he got two).
Lonzo Ball (knee), and Alex Caruso (wrist) remain out. Patrick Williams (thumb) is out for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Bucks are 9-1 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The Bucks are 6-4 ATS in the last 10 matches
- The over/under is 3-7 in the teams’ last 10 head to head matches
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Analysis:
Although it’s only two losses the Bulls situation feels very similar to what the Warriors are dealing with. It took a while for the loss of Draymond Green to show as the other Warriors began to wear down or not flow as smoothly on offense in his absence.
Ball and Caruso have missed 22 and 18 consecutive games so Chicago is going through a similar regression plus wear and tear of filling in for their missing defenders.
Milwaukee hasn’t fared much better but is riding the high of beating the Heat and will look to capitalize on the rest advantage to surge past the Bulls in the standing.
