Two of the association’s best defenses will tip off Tuesday, December 3 as Eastern Conference foes the Miami Heat play the Toronto Raptors in their first match against each other this season.
Last season, the teams played four times with the Raptors winning sweeping the series. The Heat hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 52 of their 86 matches
Like the Raptors the Heat are unbeaten at home but are 6-5 on the road, a figure they bolstered with a win in Brooklyn on Sunday.
In the win, Jimmy Butler led the way with 20 points while Bam Adebayo dropped a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Goran Dragic scored a team-high 24 points while Kendrick Nunn (11), Justise Winslow (10) and Duncan Robinson (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
On the season, Nunn is the team leader in scoring (16.1), Jimmy Butler tops the ladder for assists (6.3) and steals (1.2) while Bam Adebayo tops the rebounding (10.6), field goal percent (57.5) and blocks (1.2) team leaderboard.
Dragic (groin) won’t play Tuesday but the team is expecting to welcome Dion Waiters back to the court as he finished his team mandated suspension. Udonis Haslem (illness) has missed four games and KZ Okpala (Achilles) are also out.
This iteration of the Raptors seems to be adding their names to the franchise record books on a weekly basis and did so Sunday by virtue of a 40 point half time lead over Utah (77-37) going on to capture the 130-110 win.
Pascal Siakam led the way with 35 points connecting on five of his nine 3-point attempts while also dishing five dimes and grabbing five boards.
Fred VanVleet added a double-double of 21 points and 11 assists. Six other Raptors scored in double-figures including Norman Powell (15), Terence Davis (13), Serge Ibaka (13), Marc Gasol (11), OG Anunoby (10) and Rondae Hollis Jefferson (10). Ibaka returned from a 10 game absence.
Pascal Siakam leads the team in scoring (25.6 points) and rebounding (8.4). Fred VanVleet tops the assists and steals categories with 7.5 and 1.9 respectively.
OG Anunoby holds the team’s best field goal percent (53.0) and Marc Gasol is the top block man with 1.0 per game.
Kyle Lowry missed his 11th game (thumb) and is listed as day to day. Patrick McCaw (knee) will be reevaluated this week to determine a specific return date.
Stanely Johnson (groin) and Matt Thomas (broken finger) are expected back this month.
