Losses to the Clippers, Heat and tough overtime wins versus the Kings and Wizards last week signaled all was not right.
Erik Spoelstra cited defensive issues and consistency of the same. It’s likely a combination of teams scouting the Heat’s 2-3 zone and the reliance on youngsters Kendrick Nunn, Tyler Herro, and Duncan Robinson.
The wear and tear of the season and that trio being in a position to have so much influence on finally caught up to Miami.
In more positive news for the club, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo were both named to the All-Star reserves with the latter making his first appearance.
In the last game where the Heat lost to the Celtics, Adebayo served up a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Goran Dragic l(23) and Jimmy Butler (20) led the scoring attack.
Robinson (12), Dion Waiters (11) and Derrick Jones Jr. (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Team leaders feature Jimmy Butler for scoring (20.2), assists (6.4) and steals (1.8) and Bam Adebayo tops rebounding (10.4) blocks (1.1) and field goal percent (58.9%).
Kendrick Nunn (Achilles) missed his third game but is expected to play Saturday. Justise Winslow remains out with a bone bruise on his back with the team projecting a mid-February return.
Orlando Magic
The last game Orlando played was also versus the Heat on the road where they lost extending their losing skid to four games.
In the defeat, Nikola Vucevic posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Aaron Gordon also scored 13 as the high point producers in the game.
The trio of Markelle Fultz (12), Terrence Ross (11) and Mo Bamba (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
The Magic team leaders are Evan Fournier for scoring (18.8) and field goal percentage (46.4%). Markelle Fultz tops assists (4.6) and steals (1.3). Aaron Gordon leads rebounding (7.2), Jonathan Isaac for blocks (2.4).
There could be some additional gamesmanship in the match as both Aaron Gordon and Derrick Jones Jr. of the Heat are slated as participants in the All-Star Slam Dunk const.
DJ Augustin is expected out until mid-February with irritation in his knee.
Jonathan Isaac suffered a posterior lateral corner injury and a medial bone contusion to his left knee which will keep him out the remainder of the season.
Al-Farouq Aminu is healing from a torn meniscus which will keep him off the court until mid-April.

Free Miami Heat vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
Prior to the homestand the Heat had lost once at home all season but their road record is 11-12 and with a six-game road trip on the horizon this match takes on extra credence.
Meanwhile, the Magic’s hold on the seventh seed is precarious as the Nets though ranked eighth is in a virtual tie with the Nets who have played two fewer matches.
