In what could be a primer for a potential second-round playoff series the Milwaukee Bucks and Miami Heat tip-off on Thursday.
Although the Bucks have cemented the top seed the fact the Heat won both prior meetings versus the Bucks will factor in how Milwaukee approaches this game.
The Heat enter following a huge win over the Celtics playing on the second night of a back-to-back set whereas the Bucks arrive having lost to an extremely shorthanded Nets squad.
Miami Heat
The Heat continues to impress in the bubble. While their opponent holds the top spot in the East it has been the play of the Heat and Raptors that has impressed most.
Even the loss to the Raptors came down to clutch time and could’ve just as easily been won by Miami.
More impressive was the Heat taking down the rested Celtics a day later without the services of Jimmy Butler who sat with a sore foot following the extremely physical game versus Toronto.
Most Improved Player candidate Bam Adebayo led the way in the victory recording a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Duncan Robinson who was held to three points versus the Raptors on 1 of 5 shooting rebounded nicely versus the Celtics scoring 21 points.
Goran Dragic (20) and Kelly Olynyk (15) were the other double-figure contributors. Dragic tweaked his ankle, however, and is questionable for this match.
Milwaukee Bucks
The two Heat victories over the Bucks is understandable given the matchups and the system Miami utilizes.
Bam Adebayo offers a solid defender on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Heat rank at the top of the league for perimeter efficiency. That’s an issue for the Bucks who protect the paint in favor of letting teams shoot from behind the arc.
And while the Bucks may not be showing all their cards there are a few questions arising in the bubble. Through the season the Bucks ranked eighth offensively and first in both defense and point differential. In Orlando, albeit a small sample size, they rank 15th, 10th, and 16th respectively.
While the loss to the severely shorthanded Nets wasn’t ideal the more concerning factor was the 70 points Brooklyn scored on Milwaukee with their regular starting rotation in the game in the first half.
Despite only playing 15:47, Antetokounmpo still led his club in scoring with 16 points. Reserves Kyle Korver (13), Ersan Ilyasova (11), Frank Mason (11), and Donte DiVincenzo (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Eric Bledsoe and Pat Connaughton played their first game in the bubble while Wes Matthews is dealing with a sore calf that may keep him out Thursday.
NBA Betting Trends:
- MIA is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
- Under is 20-8-2 in the last 30 meetings.
- Under is 8-3 in MIL last 11 overall.
Free Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
Bucks coach Budenholzer says they’ll return to typical minutes in this game which isn’t surprising. Milwaukee can’t afford to let the Heat bolster their confidence via a series sweep.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Heat plus points
Since Jimmy Butler (foot) won’t play on Thursday and Goran Dragic (ankle) is questionable the Bucks better hope they take this game or that confidence will grow exponentially.
***NOTE*** In case you missed it…When the 2020 NBA 16-team playoff field is set, the NBA Playoffs will proceed in a traditional conference-based format with four rounds and best-of-seven series in each round. The 2020 NBA Finals will end no later than Oct. 13.
