The fourth-seeded Indiana Pacers and fifth-seeded Miami Heat play their second game in the first-round series with the Heat up 1-0.
In the regular season, the Heat won three of the four matches.
Miami Heat
Jimmy Butler said prior to the series start the whole drama with T.J. Warren was over but if the Pacers thought he was going to show up for Game 1 without a chip on his shoulder they were sadly mistaken.
His presence was felt throughout the game but it was his late-game scoring heroics that allowed Miami to put distance between them and the Pacers in a game that had been relatively close throughout.
Butler delivered 28 points, four assists, and three rebounds accompanying his partner in crime Bam Adebayo who delivered a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds plus six assists.
The big surprise was the insertion of Goran Dragic into the starting rotation. The veteran point guard rose to the occasion with 24 points, five assists, and six rebounds with the majority of his production in the second half.
Tyler Herro also hit double-digits with 15 points off the bench.
The other shock was Kendrick Nunn who was the starter replaced but was also a DNP coach’s decision.
As for injuries, Jae Crowder was listed with knee soreness for Game 1 and is questionable again but due to an ankle injury.
Indiana Pacers
These Pacers seriously have to be in the top three of the league for the scrappiest team. No matter who they are missing someone steps up and they compete to win.
In this first game of the series, Victor Oladipo got hit by Jae Crowder and on the same play, Jimmy Butler scraped his face scratching his eye sending him from the match and to the hospital.
That the Pacers hung in as long as they did is a testament to their level of commitment and never give up attitude. With Dipo out that meant the loss of three starters since Domantas Sabonis is out with plantar fasciitis as well as Jeremy Lamb who is lost for the season.
Malcolm Brogdon tried to put the team on his back delivering a double-double of 22 points and 10 assists. T.J. Warren also scored 22 adding eight rebounds while Myles Turner had nine points and nine rebounds.
With the reserve unit called upon to do more given the missing core players Justin Holiday (11) and JaKarr Sampson (10) stepped up to add double-figure scoring contributions.
Oladipo is questionable to play Thursday.
NBA Betting Trends:
- MIA are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 Thu. games.
- Over is 10-4 in MIA last 14 games as a favorite.
- IND are 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
Free Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction:
Unlike some teams who’ll relax after winning the first game (see Denver Nuggets), the Heat are more like the Raptors in that they’ll come prepared to fight for the win on matter what it takes to get it. Jimmy Buckets will make sure of it!
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Heat -4.5
In addition to that certainty the unknown of whether Oladipo is playing makes it hard (despite Indy’s scrappiness) to bet on the Pacers.
***NOTE*** In case you missed it…When the 2020 NBA 16-team playoff field is set, the NBA Playoffs will proceed in a traditional conference-based format with four rounds and best-of-seven series in each round. The 2020 NBA Finals will end no later than Oct. 13.
