Friday, November 4th the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers meet for the first of four scheduled contests this season. Indy will host again on December 12th while the Heat will host on December 23rd and February 8th.
The Heat arrives having last played Wednesday in a winning 110-107 effort versus the Kings. The Pacers completed a baseball set against the Nets winning the first game and losing 109-116 on Monday giving them a long layoff between matches.
The Pacers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 70 wins in 123 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with Miami taking two of the three contests.
Miami Heat
Jimmy Butler sat out the game versus the Kings nursing a sore hip. The enigmatic wing began the week scoffing at questions the Heat had regressed and said it was simply growing pains and he suggested not betting against them.
Butler noted they are integrating two new players into the starting rotation alongside himself, Kyle Lowry and Bam Adebayo and alluded that would require time to build chemistry.
On Wednesday, those vets – – Lowry (22 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals) and Adebayo (20 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists) were integral to the victory.
Tyler Herro also stepped up adding a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds while Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, and Dewayne Dedmon all scored 10 points.
Not surprisingly the Heat is performing better on defense allowing 110 points per game ranking ninth and allowing opponents to shoot, 46.6% from the field (18th) and 38.3% from deep (25th).
On offense, Miami is scoring 109.1 points (26th) points per game while shooting 45.5% from the field (22nd) and 35.0% from the perimeter (tied with Mavs 17th)
Adebayo (knee) is questionable while Butler (hip), Nikola Jovic (nose), Victor Oladipo (knee), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle) are all out.
Indiana Pacers
Although the Pacers are a franchise in the process of ‘reformulating’ their roster this season it’s likely they’ll join the tanking clubs for an opportunity to win the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.
The 2023 draft class is deep aside from Wembanyama there is Scoot Henderson and other talented prospects so the Pacers will benefit no matter which lottery pick they end up making (given their history of finding quality talents).
Ultimately, it’s easy to see how Chad Buchanan could quickly get this franchise back into the mix of teams contending for the playoffs, especially with Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin already forming two-thirds of a core Big 3.
As for this season, in contrast to the Heat, Indy is performing better on the offensive side of the court scoring 117.6 points (3rd) per game, shooting 44.7% from the field (26th) and 37.5% from the perimeter (11th).
On the defensive end, they allow 119.9 points (28th) per game, and opponents shoot 48.2% from the field (26th). They are the worst perimeter defenders allowing opponents to shoot 42.8 percent.
Isaiah Jackson (knee) is probable while Aaron Nesmith (foot) is questionable for Friday. Daniel Theis (knee) is out.

Free Miami Heat vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction
This isn’t a gimme match for the Heat who’ll have to bring their lunch box to the court because the Pacers don’t back down from a challenge and have demonstrated the ability to come from behind for victories.
Adebayo being listed as questionable on top of Butler being out means this is potentially a tighter game than it would be with both available.
However, Miami is one of the few teams who know not to take a team for granted and are accustomed to utilizing ‘next man up’ so I still feel the Heat will look to build upon their recent success.
