Miami Heat
Miami has lost all three of its games since coming out of the All-Star Break and the rest of the month doesn’t look promising. The Heat hosts Golden State on the 27th and plays at Houston the very next night.
Justise Winslow has been battling a knee but he’s probable for Golden State. Of course, if he plays against the Warriors, Eric Spolestra could hold him out in the second night of a back-to-back. He’s missed Miami’s last two games.

Goran Dragic is back but he hasn’t returned to the starting lineup, though. With Winslow out and Dragic easing his way back into action, Duncan Robinson got his first NBA start in Miami’s most recent loss to the Suns. Robinson, out of Phillips Exeter Academy, started his collegiate career at Williams before transferring to Michigan. His high school teammates surely never thought they were playing with a future NBA starting point guard. Well, they were.

I mentioned Miami’s last loss came against Phoenix, which hadn’t won in forever. The loss before that was by 23 to the Pistons, and at home. It doesn’t feel like the time to get a tough road win in Houston.
Houston Rockets
Last time I wrote about the Rockets, they had just lost their post-break opener to the Lakers and the Spurs had earned a road win. I expressed concern about the lead slipping away in the Southwest Division.
Since then, Houston has reclaimed some breathing room, thanks to back-to-back wins and three San Antonio losses, including one to the Knicks. Houston has a four-game advantage in the loss column.

James Harden’s 30-point streak was snapped by the Atlanta Hawks, who held him to 28 in Houston’s last win. That ends a run of 32 games of at least 30 points for Harden.
I saw a banner on ESPN the day after the game, asking whether or not Harden’s streak makes him a lock for the MVP. It’s shit like that that really makes me wonder if someone is manipulating MVP odds.
Giannis was a better bet just a week or two ago, maxing out at +310 but he’s still an underdog to Harden in the futures market as I write. That is madness.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Under is 9-4 in MIA last 13 road games.
- Under is 24-11 in MIA last 35 Thu. games.
- Under is 11-3 in HOU last 14 Thu. games.
- HOU are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
- Over is 7-3 in HOU last 10 vs. NBA Southeast.
- Over is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings in Houston.
Free Miami Heat vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction: Miami covers.
Classic spot for a Miami cover. The Heat almost always keep things close, though they didn’t against Detroit. They are going to get fade steam based on their last few games and the back-to-back spot. Spolestra has depth at his disposal and Winslow should be back.
I’m on Miami with a big number.
