Thursday, November 14 finds the two former clubs that LeBron James won titles with – the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers tipping off for the first time this season.
The squads played four times last season with Miami sweeping the series. The Heat hold the all-time record having bested the Cavaliers in 67 of their 112 matches.
Miami Heat
In much the same way Jimmy Butler became the fourth quarter primary facilitator and scorer for the 76ers he assumed a similar role for the Heat. This was especially true in Miami’s win over Detroit on Tuesday in a game made more difficult due to the return of Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose.

Butler registered a double-double (20 points/13 assists). Undrafted rookie Kendrick Nunn also scored 20 points which was the fourth time he’s achieved that mark this season.
Bam Adebayo also produced a double-double (18 points/14 rebounds). The trio of Goran Dragic (18), Kelly Olynyk (13) and Duncan Robinson (11) were the other double-figure scorers.
The injury report for the Miami Heat is extensive with seven players listed. The one probable player is James Johnson who missed much of the early season for not meeting conditioning requirements entering training camp.
Goran Dragic (illness) and rookie Tyler Herro who sat the last game due to a left ankle sprain are questionable. Derrick Jones Jr. (hip strain) missed the last two games and Justise Winslow (concussion protocol) missed the last three games are both out.
KZ Okpala is out indefinitely dealing with a strained Achilles. Dion Waiters is suspended for the second time this season by the team for detrimental conduct.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Entering the season most pundits and oddsmakers expected the Cavaliers to be battling for the bottom seed in the NBA. They’ve been surprising in their competitiveness but after almost upsetting the 76ers on their home court it’s doubtful top teams will take them for granted again.

The combination of the youthful backcourt of rookie Darius Garland and sophomore Collin Sexton with vets Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are gelling perfectly.
Cavaliers Coach John Beilein is preaching pace and defense to his roster and they’re listening. Granted Love and Thompson are likely putting on their best performances in hopes of trades and in Thompson’s case he’s in a contract year and playing like it.
In the game versus the 76ers Thompson registered his eighth double-double (17 points/12 rebounds) in the 10 games the Cavs have played this season. Thompson is averaging a career-best 16.5 points per game (11.4 rebounds) with his prior high being 11.7 points.
Love is also averaging an impressive 18.5 points and 12.9 rebounds double-double. He came up two rebounds shy of a double-double in Philly (20 points/8 rebounds).
In the one point loss to the 76ers the Cavs almost pulled out the win as Collin Sexton (18) and Jordan Clarkson (20) also scored in double figures.
Matthew Dellavedova (calf) and Kevin Porter Jr. (Hip) are questionable for the match while John Henson (hamstring), Ante Zizac (foot) and Dylan Windler (shin) are all out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Heat are 8-2 ATS in their last 10
- The Heat are 7-3 in last 10 head to head
- Over Under is 5-5 in team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Miami Heat vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction:
Miami’s win over Detroit was important for the seven and three Heat given the tough losses they suffered in Denver and LA versus the Lakers.
This club is still a good bet to factor among the home court seeds in the Eastern Conference and is one of 11 teams with seven or more wins entering gameplay as of Wednesday.

Alternatively, it’s unlikely the Cavaliers will be able to maintain their ‘surprise status’ or not trade some of their veteran assets. Despite the injuries Miami is addressing they’ll stop the Cavaliers in transition and reap the rewards.
