Saturday, April 2nd, the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls meet for the fourth and final time this season. The Heat will seek a season series sweep having won the three prior matches on November 27th (107-104), December 11th (118-92), and February 28th (112-99).
The Heat last played Wednesday netting an important 106-98 victory versus the Celtics while the Bulls beat the Clippers 135-130 in overtime on Thursday.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Heat winning two of the three contests. The Heat holds the all-time record with 60 wins in 121 matches versus the Bulls.
Miami Heat
Although they stumbled losing all the extra distance they’d put between themselves and the chase pack they remain the top seed in the East but with a much smaller half-game margin.
As of this posting, the Milwaukee Bucks are hot on Miami’s heels currently sitting in second. The Celtics are 1.5 games back, the 76ers 2.5 games back while the Bulls and Raptors are both four games back.

Including this game, the Heat have five matches left on the schedule with this being the second game of their final road trip of three games. They’ll return home to host the Hornets and Hawks and finish the season in Orlando versus State rivals the Magic.
This is also their final back-to-back set that finishes in Toronto in what is sure to be a love fest for Kyle Lowry who returns to Scotiabank Arena for the first time since the league suspended play due to the initial coronavirus outbreak.
Max Strus (shoulder), Caleb Martin (calf), and Gabe Vincent (toe) are all questionable for Saturday.
Chicago Bulls
If the Heat took a minor stumble the Bulls jumped off a cliff. From November 29th and February 24th the Bulls were riding high amassing a 26-13 record with their revamped squad leading the Eastern Conference for a majority of this period.
But, in stark contrast to that schedule segment, from that point forward they’ve recorded a 6-11 record. Part of the issues clearly was tied to injuries to the core with both Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball sidelined.
While Ball and Caruso’s absences highlighted defensive issues even prior to their injuries the Bulls displayed a common trait that could perhaps have forewarned of the impending regression.
Chicago struggles against the elite teams a fact punctuated by their 2-18 record versus the top four seeds of each conference. The two wins coming on November 1st (Celtics) and 10th (Mavericks)
Certainly, it feels like the Bulls shocked teams to start the season, gained confidence, and were rolling but as teams figured out the new Bulls lineups and discovered their weaknesses they weren’t able to adjust to get back into a good groove.
Zach LaVine (knee) is probable for Saturday. Lonzo Ball (knee) remains out with no definitive return date.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Miami is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games.
- Chicago is 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games.
- Miami is 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games on the road.
- The total has gone UNDER in 11 of Chicago’s last 14 games.
- Heat are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games as a road favorite.
- Bulls are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games as an underdog.
Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Analysis:
Both teams are motivated to capture the victory and each has delivered quality wins recently.
Chicago won critical seeding matches versus the Cavaliers and Raptors, albeit Cleveland was shorthanded and the Raptors were playing consecutive games. The most impressive win featured DeMar DeRozan scoring 50 points versus the Clippers.
The Heat returned to a closer version of their best selves ending a four-game losing streak with the win versus the Kings and more impressively beat Boston turned the tables by using their own defensive prowess.
With just two wins versus the top eight seeds and none since November 10th against this elite group I’m not confident the Bulls will be able to be on the winning side although they do play far better at home.
