You can still get Miami at better than +220 to win the meager Southeast Division and it still feels like the Heat has the best chance to take it because its depth makes it a little less poor than every other team in that division.
There are twelve guys Eric Spolestra either has given big minutes to, is giving big minutes to, or wants to give at least some minutes to and can’t. Throw Goran Dragic into the equation, if he returns in a month or two, and Miami has a plethora of rotational NBA players, which is more than good enough to win the weakest division in the NBA.
Derrick Jones Jr. is one of those guys that has risen to the top of Miami’s glut of wings and is demanding more minutes, not literally, but with the way he’s playing.
He’s always been an elite finisher and a good rebounder but now Jones is even better on the glass and a serviceable 3-point shooter that plays terrific defense with all his athleticism. He played a career-high 31 minutes earlier this month in Cleveland but his minutes have dropped to the teens since then.
Dion Waiters is also back and has played just five games since missing over a year with an ankle injury. He has played just 15 minutes per game in those five games and reports are he’s already unhappy. Trade rumors are swirling but I’m skeptical it will be easy to move Waiters, at least in return for any sort of asset. Miami is certainly set up to make a deal before the deadline.
Denver ran rings around the Bulls on Thursday night in the Mile High City. The Nuggets dropped 34 dimes as a team, compared to just seven turnovers, and beat Chicago by 30.
Denver’s bench had 15 assists to just one turnover and Nikola Jokic dished out a game-high 11 and came two rebounds shy of a triple-double in 25 minutes of action. Jamal Murray led the scoring with 25 points.
Chicago pretty much only got playmaking from Zach LaVine, who finished with six assists, and Wayne Selden, who played ok despite shooting 0-for-4 from the field off the bench.
It was originally thought Wendell Carter Jr., who injured his thumb in the game before Denver, may miss up to two months. Now, he’s day-to-day, though he didn’t play against the Nuggets.
Chicago has lost nine straight games, a run that stretches back into 2018.

Free Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction: Chicago snaps the skid.
The Bulls lost by seven the first time these two teams met back in November. They certainly have a chance to win this game because the Heat just doesn’t pull away from anybody. I think they’re worth a shot.
