Thursday, March 3rd, the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets tip-off for the third of four scheduled meetings this season with the final match being hosted by Miami on March 26th. The Heat are up 2-0 having won 106-93 on October 27th and 115-111 on February 12th
Miami is playing a back-to-back set having lost a 119-120 clutch time heartbreaker to the Bucks Wednesday while the Nets are fresh off a home/home, back-to-back versus the Raptors getting blown out 97-133 at home and losing 108-109 in Toronto.
Kevin Durant is expected to return to the court for this match making this a must-watch game of the night.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Heat taking two of the three contests. The Heat holds the all-time record with 77 wins in 131 matches versus the Nets.
Miami Heat
For fans desirous of a tough, exciting playoff series a glimpse at the match between the Heat and Bucks on Wednesday sure offered evidence that series would be fire.
Granted, Kyle Lowry wasn’t available and the Heat had less desperation to win given they are already up in the series now at 2-1, however it still would be a fascinating series.
In a rarity, the Heat failed to hang onto a double-digit lead (14 points) and close out a match that looked like it was there for the taking. Milwaukee outscored them 21-6 to close the game and net the one-point victory.
The Heat youngsters led the way in this match with Tyler Herro and Gabe Vincent offering 30 and 21 points. Bam Adebayo delivered a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Considering Jimmy Butler struggled (2 of 14) and Lowry wasn’t playing I’d still bank on the Heat taking a series against the Bucks.
Kyle Lowry (personal) is questionable for Thursday. Markieff Morris (neck) and Victor Oladipo (knee) are out indefinitely.
Brooklyn Nets
After missing 21 games due to a knee sprain and witnessing the exit of a player he fought to add to the roster (James Harden) Kevin Durant is expected to make his return to the court.
He’ll get his first minutes with new teammates Seth Curry and Andre Drummond as he tries to lead his team up the ladder from their current eighth place position.
Clearly, the goal will be to get out of the play-in tournament but the Nets and Durant have their work cut out for them with both the Raptors (+3) and Celtics (+4.5) in front of them.
The vast majority of analysts believe this Nets team could be special but it would require Kyrie Irving playing at Barclays where he currently is ineligible since he’s unvaccinated although it seems more likely the protocols will be lifted sooner than later.
However, if the season were to finish as listed today it wouldn’t matter if the protocols are lifted because the Raptors would host the play-in game and Canada doesn’t allow any unvaccinated player into Scotiabank Arena.
As noted up top, Durant (knee) is expected to return Thursday and was upgraded to probable as was Andre Drummond (knee).
Irving is ineligible at Barclays although he can attend games and sit on the bench now. Ben Simmons (conditioning) and Joe Harris (ankle) are all out indefinitely.

Free Miami Heat vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
Most players struggle to shake off the rust in their first games back after an extended absence but Durant isn’t the typical player. The more critical point will be figuring out the chemistry on the fly.
Factor in the Heat will be extremely annoyed by the loss in Milwaukee and a no-call on a foul to Butler late in the game that cost them the win.
Although Durant will likely be spectacular I like the Heat to rebound and take this match plus cover the spread.
