Miami had an offensive party against the Bulls on Saturday. The Heat threw 27 assists as a team, shot 57 percent (40 from three) and scored 117 points in a road cover.
Ten Miami players had an assists, including Hassan Whiteside, who tossed three. Dwyane Wade came three dimes short of a triple-double.
Dion Waiters had it going and got to play 22 minutes as a result. He finished with 21 points and just one turnover. Eric Spolestra has it right to play Waiters when he’s hot. If he doesn’t start the game well, it likely means more minutes for Tyler Johnson, Derrick Jones Jr. and even Wayne Ellington, who did not play on Saturday.
Kelly Olynyk only played four minutes, too. That’s a $10 million dollar a year player, who hit some big shots for the Heat last season. He hasn’t played with the same sort of confidence this season, due, in large part, to the lack of a rhythm, I imagine.
Olynyk started his career with Boston but became expendable when Al Horford joined the team. Horford had a modest 13 and nine in a 113–105 road win against his former team on Saturday.
Kyrie Irving had 32 points for his third big game in a row. Irving, Terry Rozier and Marcus Smart all had at least four assists. Gordon Hayward didn’t play due to personal reasons.
That’s three wins in a row for the Celtics after an equally long losing streak. Boston has a favorable schedule just about right up until the All-Star Break, too.
The C’s have home games against Cleveland, Golden State, Brooklyn, Charlotte, OKC, the Lakers and the Clippers and road games at the Knicks and Cavaliers, in addition to this one, over the next 22 days. They don’t play a back-to-back until the last two before the break, at Philly and vs. Detroit.
Irving is cooking — he’s averaging better than 32 and 11 over his last three — and Boston looks set to make some hay before the break. The Celtics lost in Miami last month and they’re going to serve some payback on Monday evening.
