The Miami Heat are coming off a season in which they won 39 games. Miami missed the playoffs by only two games. Miami will be without Dwyane Wade who retired. The superstar guard had quite the NBA career as he won three rings and made 13 All-Star games in 16 seasons.
Life without Wade won’t be new for Heat fans as he left the Heat for a pair of years in 2017-18.
While they lost Wade they added star Jimmy Butler via a sign and trade. Unfortunately the Heat also lost Josh Richardson and Hassan Whiteside.
Will Miami get into the playoffs or will they have another just decent season? Find out below.
Miami Heat Strengths:
The Miami Heat should be a good defensive team. Last season the Heat were second in the league in points allowed (105.9 ppg). The addition of Jimmy Butler can make them an even better defensive team. Butler is one of the best defenders in the league and he can defend multiple spots. Butler, Justice Winslow, and James Johnson are three versatile defenders the Heat have.

The loss of Whiteside will hurt their rim protection. They replaced him by adding Meyers Leonard. Bam Abedayo should have a good season as he will get even more playing time. Last season Abedayo averaged 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds in 23 minutes.
Rookie Tyler Herro should be productive immediately. The combo guard looked terrific in the Summer League. Herro can shoot the ball well, handle the ball, and get to the basket. He is also a solid athlete.
The team also has a pair of good outside shooting bigs in Kelly Olynyk and Meyers Leonard. Both players have had success in big games as well.
Miami Heat Weaknesses:
Miami’s offense is an area of concern. In an era where teams are scoring 110 points consistently that’s a big issue. Butler is their clear go to option. The question is who steps in as the second and third options. There are list of guys like Justise Winslow, Goran Dragic, Dion Waiters, and maybe even the rookie Tyler Herro.

Winslow is a player who showed improvement this past season. The lefty averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. He is a guy who can bump his average up to around 16 points.
Waiters is a natural scorer who can heat up or go cold in a hurry. Last season he missed most of the year. In 44 games he averaged 12 points in 26 minutes.
Dragic is an unselfish guard who has been a primary option in past years. The lefty averaged 13.7 points and 4.8 assists last year.
Not only do the Heat lack clear scoring options but they lack depth at point guard. After Dragic there isn’t a true lead guard who is reliable on their roster. Maybe that’s why they decided to use Tyler Herro a lot at point in the summer.
Miami Heat Betting Prediction: 39-41
The Over/Under for this team is set at 43.5 wins. Last season they won 39 games. Despite being in the Eastern Conference it won’t be easy for the Heat to have a big season. They should be similar to how they were last season and they won’t go over their predicted win total.
The Heat lost too much with Richardson, Whiteside, and Wade to become a playoff threat. They have some concerns down low as they look a bit soft with Kelly Olynyk, Bam Abedayo, and Meyers Leonard as their bigs.
Butler will become their closer but there will be many nights where the Heat will struggle to score. Last season the team ranked only 26th in the league in scoring averaging 105.7 points. If Winslow can’t take the next step as a scorer the Heat will be in trouble.
