Thursday, October 27th, finds the Memphis Grizzlies facing the Sacramento Kings for the first time this season. The teams will play four times this season with the Kings hosting again on November 22nd while the Grizzlies will host on January 1st and 23rd.

Although the Grizzlies got blown out by Dallas, they got right back on track beating the Nets with Ja Morant once again putting on an impressive performance with 38 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and hit four of six 3-pointers.
Desmond Bane got off to a shaky start to the season but found his rhythm and range also scoring 38 points on 14 of 21 from the field. In his three prior matches, Bane shot 13 of 49 (26.5%)!

Overall, this Grizzlies crew looks very similar to last season’s group albeit Jaren Jackson Jr. is out injured but their identity is next man up – grind it out which is what they are endeavoring to do until Jackson returns.
Their lone loss (a blowout to the Mavericks) came on the third game in four nights in the second game of a back-to-back set.
In spite of knowing their identity and initial success, they can’t ignore the early season warning signs on defense and the glass. For that reason the absence of Jackson may be more concerning than when Morant was out multiple games in 2021-22.
John Konchar (shoulder) is questionable for Thursday, Ziaire Williams (knee) is day-to-day while Jackson Jr. (foot) and Danny Green (knee) are out indefinitely.
Sacramento Kings
They’ve yet to be blown out losing their initial three matches by seven, two, and five points respectively. As of this posting they are one of three teams that remains winless (Lakers, Magic).
The longer it takes to get that ‘W’ the tighter the players will get as they begin to press.
While there are positives in the trio of losses to pull from the reality is Mike Brown is implementing a new style of play which will take the players time to adapt to.
The upcoming schedule features other struggling teams with the Heat (twice), Hornets, and Magic in their next four matches after this contest.

It all comes down to whether the Kings can defend the Grizz out to the top of the arc and keep them off the boards versus if the Grizzlies’ transition defense is strong enough to slow the Kings.
Normally I’d go with the team who has the longer track record but the Grizzlies’ struggling defensively it has me leaning to the Kings to finally collect that ‘W’ or at least keep the match closer than three points.
