Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies started 5–13 but have played just one game under a .500 pace since then (6–7). That run just about coincides with Ja Morant’s return. The rookie has injected some life into this team.

But lifeless would be an apt description of the Grizzlies the last time out, at home, against San Antonio, when they gave up 145 points in a thirty-point loss to an uneven Spurs team.
LaMarcus Aldridge had forty points and the Spurs shot over sixty-seven percent as a team in the victory. Morant had nineteen and four for the Grizzlies.
Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis with twenty-two. The fourth overall pick over a year ago now has taken a leap as a shooter in his second season as a pro and is averaging over seventeen points per game on better than forty-one percent from outside.
But he was regarded as an athletic freak coming out of Michigan State and a walking double-double, which hasn’t quite matriculated in this just his age-twenty season. Jackson’s rebounding numbers have remained flat at between four and five boards per game.
For now, Memphis has the rebounding with Jonas Valanciunas and Jae Crowder both in the starting lineup on either side of Jackson but neither of those guys are in the Grizzlies’ long-term plan.
Jackson is and he will become way more valuable to the Grizzlies if he can post eight, nine, ten rebounds along with the impressive offensive numbers, which are ahead of where most scouts had him at this point in his learning curve.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Thunder played its last game before the holidays on December 22, which gives it a nice little break to enjoy before jumping right back into things with a back-to-back, beginning with this game against the Grizzlies.
Oklahoma City certainly deserved to enjoy its holiday. The Thunder won its fourth in a row in that final game, 118–112 over the Clippers, to get to a game over .500 for the first time all season.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (19.1 points per game) and Dennis Schroder (18.1 points per game) combined to score sixty points in the win. Those two guys are actually OKC’s two highest scorers on the season but the Thunder has balance.
Danilo Gallinari (18.0 points per) is right there and Chris Paul (16.1) does a little bit of everything to go along with strong scoring statistics. Steven Adams (11.5 ppg) averages a double-double and plays terrific defense under the basket.
Hamidou Diallo, the young wing man out of Kentucky, has been out for over a month now but he’s set to be re-evaluated anytime in the next two weeks now. He’ll only add depth and toughness to a Thunder lineup that wins with such qualities as it is.
NBA Betting Trends:
- OKC are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games.
- Head to Head: Over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
- Head to Head: Home team is 14-6 ATS in the last 20 meetings.
Free Memphis Grizzlies vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction: the Thunder is solid.
It’s still a little scary to this handicapper to back the Thunder as too large of a favorite, which it will be in this one against the Grizzlies.
But some of that trepidation may be some stubbornness. These guys can play and as long as Paul and Gallinari stay healthy, they’ll win games.
