Sunday, March 13th, the Memphis Grizzlies, and OKC Thunder will play for the third and final time this season. The teams have split their prior contests with Memphis putting on a historic display on December 2nd winning 152-79 while the Thunder won 99-102 on December 20th.
The Grizzlies last played Friday defeating the Knicks 118-114 while the Thunder have had a long layoff not playing since Wednesday in a 102-132 loss to the Wolves.
Last season the clubs played three times with Memphis taking two of the three contests. The Thunder hold the all-time record with 65 wins in 97 matches versus the Wolves.
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies are holding onto that second seed in a virtual tie with the Warriors. The latter is back on track and are hopeful to have Draymond Green return to start this coming week.
That means these teams will be in a battle to nab that second seed although at this stage there may be some jockeying for seeding going on depending on the opponent. For example, how scary are the Suns viewed by these two clubs?

And of the teams who could come out of the play-in are they nervous Kawhi Leonard and Paul George could return for the Clippers and would that make taking the third seed a safer bet?
These are all questions the teams at the top will consider but ultimately, it’s best just to keep winning and have the belief you can beat anyone. That principle is why Ja Morant and the Grizzlies made the leap this season so there’s no reason to backtrack now.
In their win Friday, Morant led the way with 37 points, eight assists, four rebounds, two steals, and a block. Jaren Jackson Jr. made a huge block at the end of the match (one of his five blocks) and scored 13 points.
Ziaire Williams (13), Desmond Bane (12), Tyus Jones (11), and Brandon Clarke (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Dillon Brooks was supposed to return three to five weeks after the ankle injury but hasn’t played since January 8th missing the last 27 games. He’s FINALLY been upgraded to questionable for Sunday. Even if he doesn’t play this is a positive sign he’ll be back in the coming week.
OKC Thunder
Speaking of injuries- the Thunder injury list just took a big hit this week with news three players had season-ending surgery. Luguentz Dort was the hardest hit of the group as he suffered a torn labrum which is similar to what Paul George dealt with.
His surgery is taking place in LA by the same doctor who handled George (and Pascal Siakam this past offseason). Assuming he follows the typical rehab/healing pattern Dort should be able to return around the start of next season.
Mike Muscala had an arthroscopic procedure on his ankle to repair ligament issues and Ty Jerome had surgery on a sports hernia.
OKC remains in the 27th position with three additional losses over Detroit. Despite the Pistons and Magic recent uptick in spoiler play there is ample ground to cover if the Thunder wants to finish with one of the coveted bottom three seeds to improve the draft lottery odds.
Tre Mann (ankle) is questionable while Derrick Favors (back) and Kenrich Williams (knee) were downgraded to out for Sunday.
Josh Giddey (hip) and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (foot) are out indefinitely. Dort (shoulder), Muscala (ankle), and Jerome (hernia) are done for the season

Free Memphis Grizzlies vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
The matchup between Ja Morant and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander should be worth the price of admission all on it’s own.
While the Thunder never throws in the towel I’m grappling with the 13 point spread and opted to take the Grizzlies since OKC has so many injuries and if Brooks returns that’ll provide a motivational spark.
