Thursday, February 24th, the Memphis Grizzlies, and Minnesota Timberwolves play for the fourth and final time this season. Memphis won the November 8th (125-118) in overtime and January 13th (116-108) matches while Minnesota won the November 20th meeting (138-95).
The Grizzlies six game win streak ended the Thursday prior to the break as the Blazers defeated them 123-119 while the Wolves lost to the Raptors 91-103 on Wednesday, February 16th.
The all-time record between the clubs is knotted at 50 wins each. Last season the squads played three times with the Grizzlies sweeping the regular-season series.
Memphis Grizzlies
Although Ja Morant didn’t necessarily put his stamp on the All-Star Game in his debut starting in the big game he did deliver two jaw-dropping dunks that would’ve easily won the dunk contest that everyone wants to forget.
He returns to the court to lead his team in the stretch run with the third-easiest strength of schedule remaining. With 22 games left on the schedule, they have an even 11 games at home and 11 on the road.
They face 10 top eight seeds in this stretch (12 bottom nine seeds) and face their hardest stint to close the season when seven of their last 10 games are against those top seeds.
Although Dillon Brooks remains on the injured list he should be ready to play soon having missed the last 19 games and has been out six weeks (since January 9th).
Getting Brooks back on the court will be essential so the Grizzlies can build momentum and shore up their defense heading into the postseason.
Yves Pons (thigh), and Xavier Tillman (thigh) are questionable for Thursday versus the Timberwolves. Brooks (ankle) remains out.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Wolves sit seventh in the West with a two-game pad over the Clippers and trailing the Nuggets by 2.5 games for that final cemented playoff sixth seed.
Just getting to the postseason will be considered a victory since the Wolves have appeared in just one playoff series in the last 17 seasons. Ideally, they would like to play in a series but getting Anthony Edwards and some of the youngsters some exposure is the priority.
The big question will be whether Minnesota and more importantly Karl-Anthony Towns stay committed to him being the cornerstone of the franchise or if he grows weary of never being relevant in the spring.
Anthony Edwards played in the All-Star Rising Stars event but only for a brief spell and sat the majority of the game. Although he’s not on the injury list it begs the question of whether his ankle is bothering him more than initially indicated.
McKinley Wright IV is nursing an elbow injury and is questionable for Thursday versus the Grizzlies.

Free Memphis Grizzlies vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
Although the Wolves have started to click winning seven of their last 10 games they still appear to be one player short of entering the mix as a playoff contender. One notable is their defensive improvement which is primarily bolstered by their support players.
Memphis on the other hand has defined their identity and approaches every game with a confidence that stems from their cornerstone superstar and the improvement of Jaren Jackson Jr. Getting Brooks back should only serve to improve their overall ability.
