These teams are on opposite spectrums in the very competitive Western Conference. Memphis is supposed to be at the bottom and L.A. at the top.
Through just a few games we have seen splashes of the predictions come to fruition.
The best reason to watch this one is to see some amazing young talent as well as some of the more established stars of the league – you can have both here.
Memphis Grizzlies
I am a little more bullish on Memphis than most coming into the season. Through three games they have been pretty competitive.
Rookie Ja Morant is leading the team in scoring. His shooting has been better than expected but he makes the kind of turnovers you expect a rookie PG to make.

His presence has not seemed to take opportunity away from Jaren Jackson, who is averaging 17ppg. What I am not sure of is why these two are not averaging more minutes.
The team leader in minutes per game is veteran Jae Crowded. I love the guy but that makes no sense from developmental or winning purposes to me.
Ditto, I do not understand why they are not using Jonas Valanciunas more offensively. He is a reliable scorer and a relatively efficient one too, though limited in other areas.
The Grizzlies are only going to get better as they value the ball more. That begins with Morant who I think will figure it out relatively quickly.
Look for Memphis to be a high effort team. They are playing lots of guys and that helps.
Los Angeles Lakers
Whether they are good or bad there is always strong interest in the Lakers. After getting beat on opening night by the Clippers they have won their next two.

Kyle Kuzma was supposed to be a big part of this team but we have yet to see how he fits. He has not played this season and we have yet to get a clear idea of when he will hit the floor.
The duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis appears to be working fairly well. A surface look at their statistics shows them at expected averages, though neither seems to be thriving. I think we can say it is working but it could also work better.
All season the concern is where the other production comes from. Danny Green’s hot shooting has him at 14ppg. He is not going to shoot over 50% for the season though and nobody else other than those three is averaging even 9ppg. That has to be improved over the course of the season.

This should be a win and an easy one for the Lakers. Ja will get to be on a big stage and that is probably going to rev up his motor in good and bad ways.
I can see them keeping this one close if he is more steady but I don’t like the probability of that happening. .

I hate giving up that much chalk. The Lakers are such a veteran group that they are unlikely to squander big leads but mght not play it through at a high level if the outcome is decided.
