The third seeded Golden State Warriors get a second chance to secure their Western Conference Finals berth as they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, May 13th.
Memphis forced Game 6 behind a rout of the Warriors in spite of missing their superstar Ja Morant and will seek to replicate that performance in order to force a Game 7.
The Grizzlies won the 2021-22 season series 3-1 while the Warriors hold the all-time advantage having won 51 times of the club’s 91 regular-season meetings.
This is the second time the clubs are playing in the postseason with Golden State having won 4-2 in the 2015 semi-finals, ironically the same season they won their first of three titles in four years.
Memphis Grizzlies
This season for the Grizzlies has consistently been about rising to the occasion in spite of adversity. Regardless of who was out with injury, the young Grizzlies found a way to win.
They’ve accomplished that feat on 21 out of 26 occasions when superstar Ja Morant was sidelined which they did on Wednesday to extend the series.
The curious part of the equation is how easily they dispensed of the Warriors who they pummelled 134-95 and led by as much as 55 points on Wednesday.
Seven Grizzlies scored in double-figures, including the starting trio of Jaren Jackson Jr., Tyus Jones, and Desmond Bane who all scored 21 points.
Dillon Brooks (12), Ziaire Williams (11), Brandon Clarke (11), and DeAnthony Melton (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Steven Adams arguably is making the greatest impact given how he’s affected the Warriors’ ability to get into the paint and his prowess on the glass. To wit, Adams had 13 rebounds in Game 5 with six on the offensive end.
Morant (knee) is out Friday. Santi Aldama (knee) is day-to-day while Killian Tillie (knee) is out indefinitely.
Golden State Warriors
With the Mavericks extending the other Western Conference semi-final series to a Game 7, the Warriors are hoping to avoid that result.
The oddity of this series is the Warriors have won the close games by one and three points and blown out the Grizzlies by 30 but they’ve also had losses like their recent failure of 39 points.
Klay Thompson led his squad with 19 points while Jonathan Kuminga (17), Stephen Curry (14), Moses Moody (10), and Damion Lee (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
During the Warriors’ title runs, Thompson has often broken out in series specifically in Game 6 so watch for the wing to have another big game.
Injuries could also be a factor for the Dubs with Otto Porter Jr. (foot) and Andre Iguodala (neck) both questionable for Friday. Gary Payton II (elbow) is out indefinitely. James Wiseman (knee) is done for the season.

Free Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Game 5 was the first time the Warriors lost when assistant Mike Brown was wearing the lead hat (12-1). He’ll likely be in the same position for Friday with Steve Kerr still in health and safety protocols.
In fact, it was a night of many firsts for the Warriors who lost the rebounding and reserve scoring edge — something they had won in each of the first four matches.
Something will have to give in this match, as the winner of Game 5 has historically gone on to win the series 82 percent of the time which would be the Grizzlies but since 2015 the Warriors have won six out of eight Game 6’s (75%).
Even though this could be stretched to seven games and coming off that blowout loss I think the Warriors will be the team who comes out and punches first and cements their berth to the Western Conference Finals.
