Thursday, February 10th, finds the Memphis Grizzlies facing the Detroit Pistons for the second and final time this season. Memphis won the initial meeting 118-88 on January 6th.
Both teams last played on Tuesday with the Grizzlies crushing the Clippers 135-109 while the Pistons got routed 86-116 by the Mavericks.
Last season, the teams played twice and split the series with each winning at home. The Pistons hold the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 27 times of their 51 regular-season matches.
Memphis Grizzlies
With the trade deadline day here (and posting the day before) it’s not likely the Grizzlies will make any major moves. Although with the team playing so well and ahead of when they projected to rise up the ladder it would behoove GM Zach Kleiman to make some minor tweaks.
Steven Adams is a great vet but adding another vet who has playoff experience and is a solid locker room voice wouldn’t hurt although that might also be doable in the buy-out market.

In addition, the Grizzlies could use more perimeter shooting. The player most likely to be moved to achieve those goals is Kyle Anderson who doesn’t really fit the core or future direction of the team.
He’s also in the final season of his contract so trading him to get value now would be wise. If Slo Mo does exit to a contender it would also be better to send him East so the Grizzlies avoid having to face him in a West series.
Dillon Brooks has to be nearing a return. He was projected to miss between three and five weeks and sprained his ankle on January 8th. Five weeks exactly would be this Saturday February 12th so while he’s still listed as out indefinitely keep an eye on his potential return this week.
Xavier Tillman (thigh), Killian Tillie (back), Santi Aldama (foot), and Yves Pons (thigh) are all out Thursday.
Detroit Pistons
With the Pistons headed toward the lottery and hoping to be one of the three teams who get the best odds of winning the draft lottery they enter Thursday with Jerami Grant in the spotlight.
Grant came to Detroit wanting to be a bigger part of the scoring and assume a leadership role. There are conflicting reports about his openness to returning to a second or third scoring option which is what any elite team would ask of him.
While he showcased his offensive abilities as the primary scoring option in Detroit the reality is his best role was as a two-way talent in Denver. The question is whether contending teams will shy away from trading for him knowing his offensive demands.
Troy Weaver has an excellent relationship with Grant so it’s unlikely he’d send Grant to a team that isn’t among the elite unless it was a situation where he knows the forward would be placed in a role where he’ll be happy.
Killian Hayes (tibia) is probable while Cade Cunningham (hip), Josh Jackson (back), and Jamorko Pickett (toe) are all questionable for Thursday. Isaiah Livers (foot) is out indefinitely.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Analysis:
The Pistons are a squad who gets up to play the elite squads and often brings out a gritty, chippy, aggressive defensive effort versus those teams.
With Ja Morant getting whacked by Marcus Morris in the last game and suffering a dangerous fall it won’t go over well if the Pistons get chippy toward him.
I could be off, but something tells me this game could take that direction early because the Grizz love to boast and this iteration of the Pistons is more like the Bad Boys of old than any version since.
