Friday, January 21st finds the Memphis Grizzlies tipping off versus the Denver Nuggets in their third meeting of the season. The teams played on November 1st (106-97) and 3rd (108-106) with the Grizzlies taking both matches. The clubs will complete the season series in Denver on April 7th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Grizzlies falling 114-126 to the Bucks while the Clippers pushed the Nuggets to overtime with Denver prevailing 130-128.
The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 59 of their 97 meetings. Last season the squads played three times with the Nuggets taking all three contests.
Memphis Grizzlies
While the Grizzlies have dealt with constant absences of key players this season they may be suffering from fatigue as they hit the dog days of winter missing Dillon Brooks, Desmond Banes, Tyus Jones, and Kyle Anderson to name a few.
The loss in Milwaukee highlighted that fact and while Ja Morant did his best to carry the squad he needed more help from his teammates. Morant delivered a double-double of 33 points and 14 assists plus eight rebounds and connected on four of his 10 long balls.
Jaren Jackson Jr. also had a big night with 29 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Brandon Clarke (14) and Zaire Williams (10) were the other double-figure scorers while Steven Adams grabbed 11 rebounds.
While the Grizzlies suffered through missing several players to health and safety protocols including the coaching staff, inexplicably many of the core avoided the first hit. That’s caught up to them as Banes, Jones, Anderson, and Killian Tillie are all in quarantine and out indefinitely.
Brooks (ankle) will miss between three and five weeks with a bad ankle sprain.
Denver Nuggets
If you watch pregame warmups you’ll know Jamal Murray (and Michael Porter Jr.) have been participating in the pregame shootaround for weeks now. MPJ wasn’t expected to return this season and the Nuggets were hoping to get Murray back sometime after the All-Star break.
Based on the increased level of activity even just in that shootaround it sure seems like the odds of both returning this season is higher than not.
In the interim, the front office is trying to help Nikola Jokic by adding some shooting. It comes in the form of a trade for Bryn Forbes and quite literally won’t cost Denver anything this year as two injured players are the assets. Forbes wasn’t active in the last match but presumably will make his debut in this contest.
In the victory versus the Clippers, Nikola Jokic dropped a massive triple-double of 49 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists with the last dime being the game-winning shot by Aaron Gordon who contributed 28 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals, and hit four of his seven attempted 3-pointers.
Monte Morris flirted with his own triple-double with 19 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists plus two steals.
JaMychal Green (quarantine), Vlato Cancar (fractured foot), and Jamal Murry (ACL) are out indefinitely. Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) is presumably done for the season.

Free Memphis Grizzlies vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction
Although Memphis has done more with less repeatedly they are simply missing far too many core contributors and specifically their backcourt is decimated with Banes and Jones both out.
As long as the Nuggets take for granted who is out they should collect an easy win.
