Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, the Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics meet for the first to two scheduled matches this season. The Grizzlies will host the second game on April 10th.
Memphis last played on Monday defeating the Spurs 118-105 with Ja Morant adding to his highlight reel while the Celtics played Tuesday erasing a double-digit deficit to beat the Hawks 107-98.
If you have access to a DVR or use NBA League Pass take advantage of that since the only question tonight is which game to watch live, this one or the Heat versus the Nets (assuming the rumors Kevin Durant is returning are accurate).
Last season, the squads played twice with each club winning on their home court. The Celtics hold the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 31 of their 50 matches.
Memphis Grizzlies
Although Ja Morant may not be able to catch Joel Embiid for MVP he’s definitely taken the top spot as the most exciting player in the NBA. I’ve been ranting for months about this Grizzlies squad and Morant and they only seem to get stronger.
They also aren’t out of the running to win the West having cut the gap between themselves and the Warriors to a half-game. Golden State is playing in Dallas tonight so a combined loss by them and win by the Grizzlies would find them seeded second by night’s end.
In the victory versus the Spurs, Morant put on a show becoming the first Grizzly to score over 50 points (52) erasing his previous regular-season high of 47 that he delivered in the game prior versus the Bulls.
Ja Morant did this all in one game 😳
✅ Deep three
✅ Poster dunk
✅ Wild buzzer-beater
✅ Franchise-record 52 Pts pic.twitter.com/y6mRvjTb0X— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) March 1, 2022
His dunk over 7′ Jakob Poeltl was jaw-dropping but equally impressive was the full-court inbound pass that he caught and shot while still in the air. And hat tip to Steven Adams for that pass that was just as amazing as the shot.
What makes Morant so enticing is he offers up one of these highlights seemingly every game and he’s doing this was a young team surrounding him while still awaiting Dillon Brooks’ return who will only make them better on both sides of the court.
John Konchar (ankle) is questionable while Yves Pons (thigh) was downgraded to out for Thursday. Brooks (ankle) remains out indefinitely.
Boston Celtics
While this match has all the makings for a classic it suffered a bit of a setback with the news Jalen Brown won’t be able to play after suffering an ankle sprain against the Hawks.
That puts the pressure on Jayson Tatum who’ll need to lead the Celtics both in terms of offense but also to maintain their defensive effort which is where Boston has made the biggest strides and why they’ve won 14 of their last 17 matches.
Additionally, the frontcourt prowess of Robert Williams and Al Horford has been critical to the defensive jump by the Celtics and with an incredibly tough assignment facing this young Grizzlies squad.
Jalen Brown sprained his ankle in the game versus the Hawks and has been downgraded to out on Thursday.

- Memphis is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games.

- The total has gone OVER in 5 of Boston’s last 6 games.
Free Memphis Grizzlies vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
A tantalizing matchup between two teams who are uber-athletic featuring young stars and top defenses.
While Boston has been locking down opponents they face arguably their toughest test versus a Grizzlies squad that ranks first in steals (9.9), blocks (6.4), and offensive rebounding (14.1).
Memphis will put pressure on Boston’s defense in numerous areas as they also rank first in second-chance points scored (18.2), fast-break scoring (16.8), and points in the paint (57.4).
That’s a lot to overcome and I’m thinking especially without Brown the odds favor the Grizz.
