The Memphis Grizzlies are expected to have a rebuilding 2019-2020 season. Memphis will be with a new head coach in Taylor Jenkins. The 35-year-old was an assistant with the Bucks last season.
In the offseason the Grizzlies traded their leader Mike Conley to Utah for Grayson Allen, Kyle Korver, Jae Crowder, and a first rounder. Memphis also acquired a wing with some potential in Josh Jackson from Phoenix.
Memphis fans have a lot of reason to be excited with their young nucleus of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant. Jackson had a good rookie season while Morant was selected with the second pick in the draft.
Memphis Grizzlies Strengths:
The Memphis Grizzlies should have a strong front-court this season. Memphis has Jaren Jackson Jr. at power forward and Jonas Valanciunas at center. Last season as a rookie Jackson averaged 13.8 points and 4.7 rebounds in 26 rebounds.

The 20-year-old can defend multiple spots and does a lot of different things. Many believe the top-5 pick can be a star for years to come.
Valanciunas on the other hand is a middle of the league center who they got in the Marc Gasol trade. With the Grizzlies at times he was dominant. In 19 games with the team he averaged 19.9 points and 10.7 rebounds in just 28 minutes.
The Grizzlies should get strong play for Morant at point guard. He may well win rookie of the year. A big reason to believe he can is that he will have opportunity. Morant is an all-around guard who can pass, go to the basket, and is a great athlete. One can expect Morant to average around 18 points and 7 assists as a rookie.
Memphis may be a top-10 defense. Some of it can be due to a slower pace and the other part is that they got guys who can defend. Players like Dillon Brooks, Jae Crowder, Andre Igoudala (If he stays), Jaren Jackson, and Kyle Anderson can all defend.
Memphis Grizzlies Weaknesses:
Memphis has plenty of question marks for this upcoming season. The first being whether Jaren Jackson Jr. can become the franchise talent that Memphis expects him to be? Grizzlies fans will expect Jackson to become more of a scoring threat. Jackson can shoot the ball from the outside already it’s whether he continues to develop down low. He is already a terrific defender as well, now it’s the offense that must take off.

The Grizzlies offense is a big concern. Last season the team averaged 103.5 points which ranked last in the league. If Morant can’t put up around 18-20 points it’s going to hard to envision the Grizzlies even getting around that mark.
Using a player like Grayson Allen can boost their offense. Allen is a gifted scorer who will be entering his second season. In the last day of the NBA season he went for 40 points against the Clippers when he was on the Jazz.
Newly acquired Josh Jackson may have a big season. The gifted wing averaged 11.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 25 minutes last season in Phoenix. Playing Jackson and Allen will not only make the Grizzlies a funner team but a better offensive team.
Memphis Grizzlies Betting Prediction: 26-56
The Over/Under for this team is set at 28 games. Memphis will be among the worst teams in the Western Conference but they will be more competitive than some of the lower tier teams in the East. The Grizzlies have a young and energetic group led by Morant and Jackson. It will be an exciting team to watch despite their struggles in a loaded Western Conference.
I would stay away from betting on this total but if I had to I’d go with the under. The Western Conference has about 10 good teams that Memphis is no where nearly as good as. It won’t be easy to win any games in the West and for that reason Memphis will struggle to have any sort of success.
