The Lakers have the best record in the NBA. I thought they would be good but it has come together really quickly.
San Antonio returns home after just ending the longest losing streak under coach Gregg Popovich. They are looking to turn things around.
It is nice that the Lakers are bringing some juice to this one but the Spurs are not a great match this season.
Los Angeles Lakers
L.A. has won seven in a row after a close call at Memphis. They are winning every which way this season. Sometimes they look unbeatable and other times they just squeak by.
Recently they have gotten a boost from the return of Rajon Rondo. They might want to start him but they are also getting production from him off the bench.

When he is on the floor they can shift LeBron James into more of a scorer than playmaker. He is having a great season distributing the ball at close to 11 assists a game but he is still a formidable scorer as well.
Getting Anthony Davis the ball is an easy way to grab assists. He is also proving to be defensive menace with L.A, his blocks are at three per game.
Kyle Kuzma is back from injury but his numbers are way down. He is third scorer most projected but 12ppg in 22 minutes is not what I envisioned.
Free-agent Danny Green has been integral to the team’s success. He is making 43% of his threes and contributing to the strong defensive team the Lakers have become.
Ditto for Dwight Howard, minus the three-point shooting. He still has something left in the tank in terms rebounding too.
San Antonio Spurs
San Antonio just broke its long losing streak but it has some major work to do to get back into the race in the Western Conference.

It might be early in the season but the West is so deep and it is hard to go on sustained runs when your talent is not elite.
That appears to be the Spurs problem. Often they are more than the sum of their parts but their star power is low and the pieces just aren’t fitting. DeRozan and Aldridge are near career norms but others are not.
Coach Popovich did not forget how to coach but he is really trying to find combinations that work. Beating the Knicks might have gotten a monkey off their back but they do not have a lot of good counters for L.A.
