Wednesday, November 27, finds Western Conference rivals the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans facing each other for the first time in the 2019-20 season. This game has extra drama wrapped around it as it marks the return of ‘That’s All Folks’ Anthony Davis to the only other team he played for during his career.
Last season, the teams played four times with the Lakers winning three of the four contests. The Lakers hold the all-time record having bested the Pelicans in 35 of their 57 matches.

The Lakers hold the best record in the NBA and appear to be gaining chemistry and prowess on both sides of the hardwood. Granted they’ve played a relatively easy schedule so the tests are on the way.

In their last game versus the San Antonio Spurs, LeBron James led the team with 33 points and 14 assists. Anthony Davis also had a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.

New Orleans Pelicans
Brandon Ingram continues to put up Most Improved Player statistics and he’ll have extra motivation with the guy he was traded for in town with the team who undervalued him enough to trade him.
Likewise, Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart have their own axes to grind with the Lakers and LeBron. Suffice to say Alvin Gentry won’t need to read any motivational speech in pregame.
In his free agent year, Ingram is averaging 26.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. In the loss to the Clippers, he led the team with 24 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Four other Pelicans pitched in with double-digit efforts including Jrue Holiday(18), E’Twaun Moore (17), J.J. Redick (12) and Jahlil Okafor (10).

.Ironically, like Anthony Davis two of the former Lakers are dealing with injuries. Ball (stomach virus) and Hart (sprained knee) are both are listed as probable (and likely couldn’t be kept off the court even if Gentry tried.
Derrick Favors missed the past five games due to lower-back spasms and is listed as questionable for Wednesday. Zion Williamson is projected to return mid-December and Darius Miller (Achilles) is out for the season.

Although there will be plenty of emotion James has been through this before (everyone remembers the Q when he returned with the Heatles) —- however, Anthony Davis isn’t a player who likes friction. Just like he couldn’t own that he picked out his “That’s All Folks” t-shirt he won’t know how to deal with the boos.
And while Ball and Hart might not move the needle I can see Ingram having a huge game and his current teammates raising their play level to help him make a point.
As much as logic tells me the Lakers should win they almost lost both games to the Thunder and the Grizzlies last week so regardless I say take the Pelicans and the points but it also won’t surprise me if New Orleans wins the game.
