Friday, December 13th serves up the second meeting between the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat. In the first contest on November 8th, the Lakers won 95-80.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Lakers winning both matches and currently on a three-game win streak. The Lakers hold the all-time record having bested the Heat in 36 of their 63 matches
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers continue their five-game Eastern road trip with the Heat the second match on their slate. The Lakers took care of business in Orlando with a 96-87 win over the Magic.
In the win, only three Lakers hit double-digit scoring and not surprisingly two of those were their superstars. LeBron James posted a triple-double of 25 points, 10 assists, and 11 rebounds. Anthony Davis posted a double-double of his own with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was the other player to register double figures with 15 points.
On the season the team leader board features LA’s two superstars with Davis topping the points (27.2), rebounds (9.2) block (2.6) and steal (1.5) categories while James is leading assists (10.8) and field goal percent (49.9%).
Kyle Kuzma missed the game in Orlando due to a left ankle sprain while Rajon Rondo missed his second consecutive game with a left hamstring strain. Both are questionable for Friday in Miami.
DeMarcus Cousins is rehabbing the torn ACL in his right knee and hopes to return for postseason play.
Pride is on the line as the Heat look to make amends for one of their worst outings of the season losing to the Lakers in LA and scoring only 80 points. Moreover, retaining their unbeaten home streak is on the line.
The Heat won their last match versus the Atlanta Hawks and required overtime to finish the job. Another common trend with this team is the youngsters’ hot scoring, particularly from the perimeter.
Duncan Robinson scored ten 3-pointers in the match on route to 34 points in the game but was bested by rookie Kendrick Nunn who scored 36.
In a rarity Jimmy Butler (20 points, 10 assists 18 rebounds) and Bam Adebayo (30 points, 11 assists, 11 rebounds) both registered triple-doubles.
On the season, Butler and Adebayo lead all the team categories. Butler is tops in scoring (20.6), assists (7.0) and steals (2.1). Bam Adebayo tops the other three categories with 10.5 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 59.1% field goal percentage.
Justise Winslow (back) missed the last three games, Goran Dragic missed the last five games with a sore groin and James Johnson missed the game versus Atlanta with an illness. All three are questionable to play on Friday.
Udonis Haslem missed the previous five games due to illness and Dion Waiters is also suffering from illness with neither expected to play on Friday.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Los Angeles Lakers vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
The Lakers boast the fifth-best perimeter defense (33.7%) and they’ll need it against Miami especially their trio of youngsters who are mostly responsible for the Heat’s top three (38.2%) perimeter efficiency.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Take Heat and points (odds update 4AM EST)
Unlike most teams in the Association, the Heat does have players to defend the Lakers superstars with Bam Adebayo lining up versus Anthony Davis and Jimmy Butler taking on LeBron James. That doesn’t mean they’ll be able to stop them but it will force the rest of the Lakers to contribute.
The question is whether the Lakers will be able to stop the Heat youngsters on the perimeter who’ll look for a better outing than they had in LA.
