Tough start to the season for the Heat who failed to add a big name in the offseason. Tyler Herro is on fire averaging 25.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.

The problem is he’s giving up close to as many points on the defensive end and the Heat just don’t have enough to compensate for his defensive shortcomings (at least not at this time of the year).

It was only four years ago that these teams played in the Finals but the franchises have taken very different steps to get where they are today. LA made a series of deals and signed free agents to revamp their roster around LeBron and AD.

Whereas Miami expected to sign a big free agent or land a disgruntled superstar (Dame Lillard, Bradley Beal, or Jrue Holiday) but came up short in all pursuits presumably because GMs weren’t moved by the available trade assets offered.

Both squads are proving there is work to be done but LA is in much better shape than the Heat who need to add a player who can score AND defend and ideally in the 25ish age range. That’s asking a lot given Pat Riley’s coffers aren’t full of goodies.

With that in mind, the Lakers have much greater depth but they’ve been stung by injuries. Still, barring a huge spread (which has yet to be posted) I’m taking LA for the win.
