Despite six days of rest, the Western Conference’s top team lost Game 1, but they bounced back with a win to even the series at one game each.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers were almost in a must-win situation already in Game 2 of the series and came close to coughing up the 16 point lead they gained in the first half when they allowed the Rockets to score 41 points to their 23 in the third quarter.
In the end, the Lakers two superstars got some assistance from their support staff but each registered massive double-doubles to led the way.
To wit, LeBron James registered 28 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists while Anthony Davis produced 34 points and 10 rebounds.
Markieff Morris (16), Kyle Kuzma (13), and Rajon Rondo (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Several Lakers are on the injured list including both superstars Davis (sprained pinkie finger) and James (sore groin) but both are expected to play. JaVale McGee is questionable with a sprained ankle while Dion Waiters is doubtful with a sore groin.
Houston Rockets
Despite falling behind by 16 points early the Rockets weren’t deterred and when your team focuses primarily on 3-point shooting it doesn’t take much to get back in matches.
James Harden led his team with 27 points while PJ Tucker was big registering a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while trying to navigate early foul trouble.
Russell Westbrook also delivered a double-double (10 points, 13 rebounds) but was often out of control and shot a poor 4 of 15 from the field and had seven turnovers.
Eric Gordon (24), Robert Covington (17), and Danuel House (13) were the other double-figure scorers.
Although Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) was considered a possibility to return he’s once again listed as questionable.
