Thursday, April 7th, finds the Los Angeles Lakers playing the Golden State Warriors for the fourth and final time this season. The Warriors lead the series 2-1 with victories on October 19th (121-114) and February 12th (117-115) while the Lakers won on March 5th (124-116).
The Lakers last played Tuesday losing 121-110 eliminating them from the playoffs while the Warriors played on Sunday winning 109-90 versus the Kings.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Lakers taking two of the three contests. The Lakers have won 257 of the 428 matches played versus the Warriors all-time.
Los Angeles Lakers
Anthony Davis dropped the excuses after their recent game in Phoenix. No doubt, the shade he faced for tossing out a litany of reasons for why the Lakers failed this season was top of mind.
And, the fact he made the shady comment about how LA would’ve beaten the Suns a year ago if he wasn’t hurt. Well, in a perfect case of be careful what you wish for (or say out loud) Davis experienced immediate humbling courtesy of Devin Booker and the Suns.
First, the Suns captured their 63rd win of the 2021-22 season which is the new franchise record for wins by the Suns so LA will forever be linked to that new benchmark.
What made the night even more bitter for Davis and company was the loss eliminated them from the postseason. On Wednesday the Lakers were already in ‘what happened this season mode.
Moving forward with just three games remaining normally the stars would be shut down, especially LeBron James and Anthony Davis who are already nursing injuries but there is a kink in those plans.
James is battling Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo in a race to win the scoring race but he hasn’t played in enough games to be eligible, falling two short.
So, will LeBron play through pain in order to become the oldest (Michael Jordan currently possesses that record) to win the scoring title?
And, of course, if he does play to try to win that accolade he’ll face criticism for not playing the Suns when the Lakers needed him but playing games that don’t matter to win that personal achievement.
The injury report isn’t giving any clarification as James (ankle) is questionable for Thursday as are Davis (foot) and Russell Westbrook (shoulder) though the latter two are likely out now that the games mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Kendrick Nunn (knee) signed with the Lakers in the offseason and never played a game.
Golden State Warriors
Since Stephen Curry went down the Warriors haven’t looked like an elite team. Draymond Green hasn’t made the impact expected since his return with the enigmatic forward even noting he’s not up to par.
The fact he’s not moving as well as he needs to is impacting both sides of the court and Klay Thompson still hasn’t discovered consistency — which is completely fair given he missed two full seasons (and a half).
The positives are Jordan Poole looks great and if he was coming off the bench all season would’ve given Tyler Herro a run for the money to win Sixth Man but he’s played too many games.
Jonathan Kuminga has also impressed so much so that he’s likely forced Steve Kerr to give him minutes in the postseason.
As for injuries Curry (foot) is out and doesn’t appear close to returning which is concerning plus James Wiseman is done for the season due to his knee experiencing swelling when he attempted the comeback.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Barring the sky falling this is a Warriors victory and normally the 12.5 point spread would give me pause but even if LeBron plays the Lakers will just keep passing him the ball so he can score.
