Gone are Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverley, and Thomas Bryant. Incoming are D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Mo Bamba. They join the earlier acquisition of Rui Hachimura

On the negative side, LA allows opponents to score an average of 118.4 points per game ranking 27th. Their opponents shoot 47.3% from the field and 34.6% from behind the arc ranking 15th and third respectively.
Another key point, the Lakers score 117.1 points per game which rank sixth-best while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from the perimeter ranking ninth and 26th respectively.

With the West getting busy during the trade deadline, the reigning champions also got in on the action. OG Anunoby was the desired target but proved too costly (the Dubs were not willing to even consider Jonathan Kuminga).
Still needing to resolve their defensive issues what happened next was some creative executive work by Bob Meyers who involved a trio of other teams to get the deal done.
First, the Warriors finally conceded the James Wiseman experiment failed and sent him to Detroit then flipped Saddiq Bey to the Hawks for five second-round picks which were then shuttled to Portland (along with Kevin Knox) to bring back Gary Payton II.
Perhaps the price was too high but it didn’t deter other moves being made including bringing back last season’s defensive specialist Gary Payton II.
UPDATE: Payton failed his physical and now the deal is up in the air
