But Dell Demps appears to want to do more than simply drive up the price for Davis’ services as high as he can; as he has already accomplished that. Reportedly, the Lakers offered Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Ivica Zubac and two first-round picks.

Instead, Demps asked for even more, between six and eight draft picks, reportedly. That is a man who doesn’t actually want to get a deal done. It still feels like the Pelicans have to give this some serious thought but, as of Wednesday morning, it seems as though a deal won’t happen.

That will give Danny Ainge and his arsenal of first-round picks (nine over the next three years), the chance to acquire Davis after the summer deadline and Kyrie Irving’s contact situation has a chance to resolve.

The Celtics beat the Cavaliers for a fifth-straight win. Boston welcomes both LA teams into the Garden over the next three days and finishes with a back-to-back, at Philly and then vs. Detroit before the break.
