Tuesday, March 22nd finds the LA Clippers playing the Denver Nuggets for the fourth and final time this season. The Nuggets lead the series 2-1 with victories on December 26th (103-100) and in overtime (130-128) on January 19th while the Clippers won 87-85 on January 11th.
The Nuggets last played Sunday losing 104-124 to the red hot Celtics while the Clippers had a long weekend, last playing on Friday in a 92-121 loss to the Jazz.
The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 101 of their 184 meetings. Last season the squads played three times with Denver winning two of the three contests.
LA Clippers
It’s highly unusual to reach this point in the season with approximately 10 games remaining and have so few seeds decided. The Suns have essentially tied up first overall although it’s not mathematically clinched.
Likewise, the Clippers find themselves as the other Western seed essentially cemented in eighth since they trail the Nuggets by 6.5 games and are up 5.0 on the Pelicans.
Perhaps that’s why Ty Lue is resting his players seemingly more often than he did throughout the season or why the Clippers have lost 8 of their last 10 matches (lack of motivation).
On the injury front in terms of the Clippers’ two superstars and Norman Powell, there have been several recent comments from head coach Ty Lue providing some clarity.
First, Lue said none of the players would return “during” the playoffs meaning any return would have to occur prior to the postseason beginning.
Kawhi Leonard’s return undoubtedly would shift the dynamics greatly but Lue’s recent comments indicate he’s the least likely to make a return. Powell removed the walking boot last week and Paul George progressed to participating in a four on four (with minimal contact) versus coaches.
The Clippers have nine games remaining with a 6-3 home/road split and two back-to-back sets remaining.
Denver Nuggets
It was a rough weekend for the Nuggets who lost in overtime to the Cavaliers after leading by 16 and got pummelled by the Celtics. A week ago they appeared poised to move up to a home-court seed but begin week 22 in the play-in seventh seed.
They’ve lost two games in a row and four of the last six. Every team will go through brief winning and losing streaks but this is the worst time to stumble as teams are trying to build momentum down the stretch.
Michael Malone says Jamal Murray is “not close” to playing in any of the games. Said there’s a possibility he could go back down to Grand Rapids for another “practice block.” Also said there’s not yet a date determined when it would be foolish to bring him back.

Factoring in no doubt is fatigue and possibly the realization it’s less likely Jamal Murray (or Michael Porter Jr.) will return this year. Until Malone’s comments (above) there was optimism both would return. Denver has 10 games remaining with a 7-3 home/road split.
Zeke Nnaji (hamstring) is questionable to play Tuesday versus the Clippers. Vlatko Cancar (fractured foot), Jamal Murry (ACL), and Michael Porter Jr. (back surgery) are out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The LA Clippers are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games against Denver.

- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver’s last 5 games.
- The Clippers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog.
- The Nuggets are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a favorite.
Free LA Clippers vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction
Only one team has true motivation to win and that’s the Nuggets given their drop in the standings. The concern however is Nikola Jokic really looked fatigued this past weekend and the weight of carrying his club all season may finally have caught up to him.
I like Denver to win but all three meetings were decided by three points or less so take the Clippers and the points.
