Monday, February 28th the Indiana Pacers playing the Orlando Magic for the second of three scheduled games this season. The Magic won the initial meeting 119-118 on February 2nd and will also host the final meeting between the clubs on March 2nd.
Indiana is playing the second game of a back-to-back set having pummeled the Celtics 128-107 on Sunday while the Magic last played Friday defeating the Rockets 119-111.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Pacers sweeping the regular-season series. The Pacers hold the all-time record having bested the Magic in 67 of their 117 matches.
Indiana Pacers
The Pacers are still managing injuries to the core which makes it virtually impossible for head coach Rick Carlisle to figure out precisely what he has with Tyrese Haliburton and Buddy Hield mixed in with his typical core.
Sunday offered potential glimpses of what this team could become via an impressive win against the sizzling Celtics.
Carlisle credited the pace and shot selection for the success. Putting into perspective just how impressive the Pacers’ 128 points was during the Celtics run of 11 wins in 12 games they held seven teams under 100 and another four scored 102-107 points.
Indy got hot early from the perimeter to build their lead and never cooled off shooting 51.5 percent via 17 of 33 from deep.
Oshae Brissett led the way for Indy with 27 points, six rebounds, and hit six 3-pointers. Tyrese Haliburton just missed a double-double with 22 points, nine assists.
Buddy Hield registered 21 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The other newcomer to the squad Jalen Smith posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Malcolm Brogdon (20), Isaiah Jackson (11), and Chris Duarte (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Lance Stephenson (ankle) is questionable for Monday. Myles Turner (foot), T.J. McConnell (wrist), and TJ Warren (foot) are all out indefinitely. Ricky Rubio (ACL) is lost for the season.
Orlando Magic
The Magic continues their schedule segment of playing other lottery-bound teams. Friday, they got the best of the Rockets and had an offensive explosion putting 119 points on the board.
Eight players played 20 or more minutes with seven of them scoring in double-figures. Wendell Carter Jr. led the way with a double-double effort featuring 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Chuma Okeke served up 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block as a reserve playing so well he garnered extended minutes (32).
Cole Anthony (14), Franz Wagner (13), Gary Harris (12), RJ Hampton (11), and Terrence Ross (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Mo Wagner (ribs) is questionable to play on Monday versus the Pacers. Jonathan Isaac (knee), Markelle Fultz (knee), and Bol Bol (foot) are all out indefinitely.

Indiana Pacers vs. Orlando Magic NBA Analysis:
Consistency isn’t something either of these clubs has delivered this season so despite both producing stellar efforts and victories in their last outings they could just as easily come out Monday night and get routed.
The Magic had the weekend off so should be the fresher team but if the Pacers ride the momentum of their hot offense they could be problematic for Orlando.
The one-point spread is the oddsmakers essentially telling us this is a coin toss although most home teams get a two or three-point automatic nod. I like the Pacers regardless so I’m taking that lone point and Indy.
