The first-round playoff series between the sixth-seeded Indiana Pacers and third-seeded Milwaukee Bucks continues on Tuesday. Indiana will be looking for the Gentleman’s Sweep after defeating the undermanned Bucks 126-113 in Game 4.
Season Series
Last season the Bucks took three of the four regular-season contests but this year the Pacers reversed that fortune winning four of the five contests with an extra match thrown in due to the In-Season Tournament.
Milwaukee holds the all-time record between the clubs with 115 victories in 211 matches versus the Pacers.
This is the third time the clubs are playing in the postseason with the Pacers taking both series including their last meeting in 2000.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, on Monday, April 28th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Tuesday, April 30th.
Indiana Pacers
After looking shell-shocked in Game 1 the Pacers have settled into the playoffs and returned to bringing their exciting brand of offense to the hardwood.
Indy was definitely helped by the Bucks missing both superstars but it doesn’t discount the balanced attack they offered in the Game 4 victory.
Game 4 was punctuated by red-hot perimeter shooting and balanced scoring. To wit, Indy registered a playoff career-best 22 deep balls and all five starters plus Obi Toppin scored in double-figures.
Pacers Stats
Indiana possesses the second-ranked offense (120.5) however, their defense lacks something to be desired as it ranks 24th (117.6) while their net differential of plus +2.9 registers 10th overall.
Through their fourth game of the playoffs, the Pacers rank second offensively (121.0), and 12th defensively (116.4) with a plus +4.7 net differential ranking fifth.
The Pacers began the season strong and remained one of the better bets against the spread with a 46-38-3 record through 87 matches.
Pacers Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Tyrese Haliburton, PG (probable —back)
- Bennedict Mathurin, SF (OUT for season — shoulder)
Milwaukee Bucks
Watching the early minutes of Game 4 it was clear the message in the Bucks locker room was to play bully ball and use aggression. Specifically, Bobby Portis got in Andrew Nembhard’s face becoming the aggressor but didn’t back down which merited him being tossed.
Already down Antetokounmpo and Lillard with Middleton still not 100 percent, Milwaukee could ill afford to lose Portis. There is a way to play aggressively without crossing the line so it felt like Portis’ decision was selfish and foolish.
Bucks Stats
Milwaukee ranked sixth offensively (117.6), and 19th defensively (115.0) with a net differential of plus +2.6 that ranked 11th overall.
Through four playoff games, Milwaukee ranks fifth offensively (116.4) and 15th defensively (121.0) with a minus -4.7 net differential ranking 12th.
As the season progressed, the Bucks struggled against the spread with a 37-49 record in that category through 85 matches.
Bucks Injury Report
To summarize the injury report…
- Khris Middleton, SG (probable —ankle)
- Patrick Beverley, PG (probable — oblique)
- Damian Lillard, PG (downgraded to doubtful — Achilles)
- Giannis Antetokounmpo, PF (OUT indefinitely — calf)

Free Indiana Pacers vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
Kudos to Middleton and the undermanned Bucks who never quit in Game 4 showing tons of heart and no-quit attitude. Unfortunately, they enter this game likely without Lillard again plus Middleton and Beverley are hobbled.
That gives the Pacers a massive edge in depth, and assuming Haliburton plays, also in talent.
Social media has already jumped ahead assuming the Knicks and Pacers will meet with both teams potentially wrapping up their series on Tuesday. I’m betting at least one of those assumptions is accurate.
