Rick Carlise offered positive news that Tyrese Haliburton is progressing well from his elbow and knee sprains and will be reassessed this coming week.
He can’t get back soon enough as the team has lost 9 of 10 starting with the match Haliburton exited and has missed the last nine.
Regardless of who plays Indy needs to fix their starts as they once again coughed up a huge lead in the opening frame (45-30) and trailed 56-85 by the half.
Myles Turner (24), Buddy Hield (22), and Bennedict Mathurin (21) did their best to erase the deficit but the hole was too big to overcome.
Stats
The Pacers average 115.4 points per game (10th) while shooting 45.8% from the field (24th) and 36.3% from deep (12th).
Defensively, Indy allows 117.3 points per game (25th) while opponents shoot 47.4% from the field (19th) and 37.6% from the perimeter (29th).
Tyrese Haliburton (elbow), Kendall Brown (tibia fracture/gone to G League to condition) are out while Daniel Theis (knee) is out indefinitely.
Memphis Grizzlies
Footage of the Tyre Nichols beating by numerous Police was shown before the game on Friday. It highlights that the Grizzlies are playing with heavy hearts and much more than basketball on their minds.
Coach Taylor Jenkins offered insight:
“There’s way harder things going on in the city versus what’s going on with our basketball right now,” Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said. “I’m proud of our guys going out there. As I said before the game, we’re playing with heavy hearts, but we’re also playing for our city that’s going through a lot right now.”
Memphis played without two starters Friday as Steven Adams will miss between three to five weeks plus Desmond Bane was also out and that proved to be too much. Ja Morant led the Grizzlies registering a triple-double of 27 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds.
Stats
Offensively, the Grizzlies score 116.8 points per game ranking seventh overall. Memphis shoots 46.8% from the field ranking 21st, and 34.7% from the perimeter ranking 22nd.
Memphis still owns the best opponent field goal percentage of 44.9% while limiting opponents to 112.5 points per game and 35.7% ranking 13th and 12th respectively.
Desmond Bane (knee) is doubtful while John Konchar (concussion) is out Sunday. Steven Adams (PCL strain) is out indefinitely. One positive on the injury front is Danny Green is expected to make his return on February 1st versus the Blazers.
