Jalen Smith continued to show what he can do in more playing time after coming over in a trade from Phoenix. He posted 15 points and 15 rebounds off the bench.
Orlando may be the only team in the East worse than both the Pistons and Pacers but Indiana managed to get it done on the road without Chris Duarte, the rookie averaging over 13 points per game.
Duarte is a key player. He missed three games with a toe injury before returning on Sunday to play in Indiana’s blow-out Boston.
Then he re-injured the same toe the next night in the Pacers’ first of two against the Magic, which they lost.
Head Coach Rick Carlisle said that Duarte could just miss the one game or may be out longer. Duarte’s status may be worth watching.
Detroit Pistons
Detroit has spent most of the season with a Net Rating of double-digits in the negative.
In its last six games however, it has stayed within that number, winning three and losing three by less than ten.
The most recent of which was a three-point loss at Washington on Tuesday that the Pistons covered by the hook.
Jerami Grant scored 26 points for the second game in a row, the most he’s posted since returning from missing all of January and nearly all of December.
Cade Cunningham had 20 and Saddiq Bey had 19. Those three are just now healthy and consistently performing the most dependably for Detroit now.
