Monday, October 31st , the Indiana Pacers and Brooklyn Nets meet for the second of four meetings this season and finish their baseball-style two game set which witnessed the Pacers shock the Nets 125-116 on Saturday.
The Pacers will host the other two matches between the clubs on November 25th and December 10th.
The Pacers own the all-time record with 109 victories in 189 meetings versus the Nets. Last season the teams played three times with the Nets sweeping the series.
Indiana Pacers
So much for the Pacers being fatigued from the back-to-back set. Instead, they not only beat the Wizards on Friday but looked much more like the playoff contending squad than the Nets.
At some point Chad Buchanan is going to have to decide if Indy is going to enter the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes or roll the dice with the club they have and slowly rebuild.
It’s far more likely they opt for the former and seek trade partners for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield. As I’ve noted prior it makes far more sense to trade them individually than to package them both to the Lakers.
Although Indy could wait until the trade deadline there’s reason to expedite a Hield deal given how well their rookie Bennedict Mathurin is performing.
Case in point, Mathurin led the Pacers with 32 points including six 3-pointers both career bests plus the 23 made triples set a franchise record .
Mathurin is giving Paolo Banchero a run for his money to win Rookie of the Year averaging 21 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting a blistering 43.2 percent from the perimeter on 6.2 attempts.
The Montreal native is doing this in a reserve role playing only 27.7 minutes. Imagine if he were starting alongside Tyrese Haliburton and logging 33.4 minutes.
Theoretically, an additional six minutes would result in a substantial increase in production, not to mention how valuable it would be for him to get more reps with Haliburton and the experience of facing other starters.
Speaking of Haliburton he contributed 26 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in the victory. Isaiah Jackson recorded a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Hield added 17 points.
Myles Turner made his season debut Wednesday versus the Bulls and played Friday in Washington but sat on Saturday as the team load managed his return from a severe ankle injury.
TJ McConnell (knee), Aaron Nesmith (foot), and Myles Turner (ankle) are all questionable for Monday while Daniel Theis (knee) is out indefinitely.
Brooklyn Nets
A question I’ve posed prior was how the Nets would respond to adversity not necessarily on the court – but off it. They got the combo hit on Saturday with the loss to the Pacers coupled with Kyrie Irving getting heat for seemingly promoting an antisemitic film.
Nets owner Joe Tsai and the NBA both responded immediately.
Tsai posted on social media he was disappointed, stating Irving’s post was hurtful and added he intended to have a deeper discussion about it with Irving. The NBA released a statement:
“We believe we all have a role to play in ensuring such words or ideas, including antisemitic ones, are challenged and refuted and we will continue working with all members of the NBA community to ensure that everyone understands the impact of their words and actions,”
Meanwhile Irving defended his post (or his reason behind it) in a heated post game exchange with reporter Nick Friedell who also brought up a recent Irving retweet of an Alex Jones post.

Irving was brilliant in the game scoring 35 points but his off court decisions can’t help but seep into the locker room and the question is how it impacts his teammates.
Steve Nash was asked if this latest situation is a distraction and his response sort of sums up the constant drama of the past two plus seasons implying the club has developed a certain immunity to these situations (yikes).
As for the game, no doubt this loss stings the most since the other four losses were to projected playoff teams.
The other double-figure contributors on Saturday were Kevin Durant (26), Royce O’Neal (11), and Joe Harris (11). Seth Curry made his season debut but was scoreless going 0 for 5 (all from the perimeter).
Ben Simmons had arguably his most productive game scoring nine points with eight rebounds, nine assists, a steal, a block, and made three of his five free throws.
TJ Warren (foot) is expected to return in early November.
NBA Betting Trends:

- Brooklyn are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games.
- Indiana are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Brooklyn.
- The total has gone OVER in 5 of Brooklyn’s last 7 games.
Free Indiana Pacers vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
If losing to the Pacers and facing them immediately again doesn’t provide the motivation required for the Nets to absolutely dominate this match from start to finish then Sean Marks better hit the phones immediately to address the issues in that locker room.
As crazy as it is to say just seven games into the season this is a must win for the Nets… or else…
