This first round series of the Eastern Conference playoffs will feature the Indiana Pacers and the Boston Celtics. The Pacers are the 5th seed and the Celtics are the 4th seed.
Boston won the season series three games to one and have now won three games in a row.
The Pacers managed to hold on to a playoff spot after losing Victor Oladipo back in January. They have overall played well, but will now be tested by a very good Boston squad.
The Pacers offense is definitely not their strong suit as they are averaging just 108 points per game. This ranked 22nd in the NBA. They are however, 4th in field goal percentage at 47.5% and 5th in the league in three-point field goals at 37.4%.
After the Oladipo injury, Bojan Bogdanovic emerged as the leading scorer for this Pacers squad. He is averaging 18 points per game and will need to have an elite performance if they are going to pull off the upset in game one. Other players to watch for are Domantas Sabonis, who averages 14.1 points per game and 9.2 rebounds per game and Doug McDermott, who only averages 7.3 points per game, but can come off the bench and provide three-point shooting.
Defense has been the main focus this season as the Pacers are 1st in points allowed per game at 104.7 points per game. They are also 6th in field goal percentage, allowing opponents to shoot 45% from the field. If the Pacers are going to win this game, they must contain guys like Kyrie Irving.
Besides the Patriots, teams in Boston are not faring well at the moment. Their hockey team, the Bruins, just lost in game one of their playoff series and the Red Sox are also off to a rocky start. The Celtics will look to change their luck by not losing as the underdog in this game with the Pacers.
The Boston offense sits in the middle of the pack, scoring 112.4 points per game. They are the 7th best three-point shooting team and will turn to Kyrie Irving to carry them in this series. One notable injury is Marcus Smart, who has been ruled out indefinitely. Some of their other starters are listed as questionable, but they should be able to go come game time.
The defense for the Celtics is also very strong as they are 8th in the league. They allow an average of 108 points per game an opponents shoot just 44.8% from the field (4th) and 34.4% from the three-point line (6th). They key for Boston defensively will be to shut down the inside game by putting a body like Al Horford on the Pacers’ post guys.
NBA Betting Trends:
- BOS are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 home games.
- Over is 10-1 in BOS last 11 games as a favorite.
- Over is 9-2 in BOS last 11 vs. Eastern Conference.
- Over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.
Free Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
With both teams scoring over 100 points per game, I like this game to hit the over based on the fact that the total is set relatively low for an NBA playoff game.
