Friday, April 1st, 2022, the Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics meet for the fourth and final time this season. Boston leads the series 2-1 with victories on January 10th (101-98) and 12th (119-100) while the Pacers won the February 27th match 128-107.
Both teams last played Wednesday with the Celtics losing 98-106 to the Heat while the Pacers lost 118-125 to the Nuggets.
Last season, the teams played three times with Boston taking two of the three contests. The Celtics hold the all-time record having bested the Pacers in 103 of their 185 matches
Indiana Pacers
Controversy surrounded the last match played by the Pacers as Lance Stephenson was up to his old tricks. The problem is the officiating crews who are becoming more and more of a concern heading into the postseason.
This week, Marcus Smart got away with copious flops in a game that the Celtics B team almost won because of an egregiously biased whistle and the Nuggets almost suffered the same fate with a similarly ridiculous whistle.
Stephenson pretended to get hit by an Austin Rivers elbow which led to his second technical and expulsion from the match. The problem was Rivers never touched Lance.
This sort of thing is becoming far too common and raises the question on numerous issues with officiating this season.
Suddenly, James Harden and Trae Young are getting calls for instigating offensive fouls, flops aren’t being called out and fined and officials are calling games seemingly looking to impact the outcomes.
There are far too many matches where an official standing at center court is making a call under the basket and stars like LeBron James and Chris Paul need only pull a ref to the side and request a call or complain for a call to be changed.
It’s something moving forward the league is going to have to address especially with fans betting on games and the impact those types of infractions can have on the outcome of the match.
Malcolm Brogdon (conditioning), Goga Bitadze (foot), Oshae Brissett (back), and Isaiah Jackson (head) are all questionable. Chris Duarte (toe) was downgraded to out for the match Friday.
Myles Turner (foot), T.J. McConnell (wrist), and TJ Warren (foot) are all out indefinitely. Ricky Rubio (ACL) is lost for the season.
Boston Celtics
For arguably the hottest team of this calendar year learning the captain of their top-ranked defense was hurt had to impact the locker room. Robert Williams III tore his meniscus but elected to take the shorter option for treatment and will miss four to six weeks.
That means he could potentially be available for the second round of the playoffs but the Celtics will need to get through the first round and hope he’s close to his typical self when he returns.
In their first true test without their defensive captain, the Celtics experienced slippage as the Heat shut them down and scored with greater ease in the paint than previous opponents had.
They enter this game having dropped to fourth two games back of the top-seeded Heat, a game back of the Bucks and even with the 76ers who sit in third because they’ve played two fewer matches.

Free Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Even without Williams, the Celtics are still a formidable defensive squad, especially when facing the lower-tier squads. However, the Pacers are scrappy in spite of their decimated roster 14.5 points is just too rich to bank on.
