Tuesday, February 8th, finds the Indiana Pacers facing the Atlanta Hawks for the second of four occasions this season. In the initial meeting on December 1st, the Hawks won 114-111.
Atlanta will host again on March 13th while the teams will wrap up the season series on March 28th in Indiana.
Both teams last played on Sunday with the Pacers losing 85-98 to the Cavaliers while the Hawks lost 94-103 to the Mavericks.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Pacers taking two of three contests. The Hawks have won 104 of the 198 matches played versus the Pacers all-time.
Indiana Pacers
The Pacers finished the weekend playing a team they completed a deal with just prior to the tipoff. The much rumored trio that Kevin Pritchard teased would be available for the right price became a duo as Caris LeVert was dealt to the Cavs.
Coming back to Indy is the expiring contract of injured guard Ricky Rubio and three draft picks. Specifically, the Pacers receive a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick plus two future second-round picks including the Rockets pick this year.
The Rubio contract could end up being valuable as well since teams will be interested in adding it since it will free up cap space for them this offseason to use in free agency.
Now the question is whether Pritchard will continue the rebuild and look for trade destinations for Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner.
The latter drew a lot of interest initially given his shot blocking and floor spacing but the injury seemed to cool off discussions. With the deadline on Thursday, that situation could shift quickly.
Malcolm Brogdon (Achilles) and Isaiah Jackson (ankle) are questionable for Tuesday. Myles Turner (foot), T.J. McConnell (wrist), and TJ Warren (foot) are all out indefinitely.
Atlanta Hawks
Trailing the majority of the game the Hawks got some whistle luck in Dallas with Luka Doncic picking up his fifth foul not even a minute into the third quarter.
Jalen Brunson was felled by the same back luck having to sit halfway through the third. Atlanta took advantage of the lack of playmaking on the court cutting the deficit to two but couldn’t break that barrier.
Both John Collins (22 points, 18 rebounds) and Trae Young (17 points, 11 assists) registered double-double performances but Young struggled again from the perimeter.
Young dealt with a hip injury that may be throwing off his stroke as he’s scoreless from deep through the last two games going 0-4 in Toronto and 0-6 on Sunday.
DeAndre Hunter (14), Kevin Huerter (11), and Danilo Gallinari (11) were the other double-figure contributors.
Lou Williams (hamstring) is questionable for Tuesday.

Free Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
Although I questioned whether this Hawks team is as strong as their seven game winning streak hinted they have more weapons than the injury riddled Pacers.
Collins and Capela will have their hands full trying to control Sabonis and likewise the Pacers will need to limit Young.
I felt much better about the opening line of six points but the nine points even for Indy feels a bit rich.
