On Monday, February 14th, the Houston Rockets and Utah Jazz will meet for the third of four scheduled games this season.
The clubs split the previous two contests with Utah winning 122-91 on October 28th and Houston winning 116-111 on January 19th. The Rockets will host the final match on March 2ndh.
The Rockets last played on Thursday losing 120-139 to the Raptors while the Jazz had the weekend off after defeating the Magic 114-99 on Friday.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Jazz sweeping the regular-season series. The Jazz holds the all-time record having bested the Rockets in 110 of their 209 matches
Houston Rockets
In their last match, the Rockets got off to a blistering start scoring 41 points in the first quarter against the red-hot Raptors. Unfortunately, Toronto woke up and won the next three quarters to take the match never looking like the game was in question.
There are plenty of positives to pull from a game of that nature as Houston’s youthful squad can see they have the potential to stay with any club – – offensively.
Now the secret will be to work on the defensive side of the court and develop good habits they can apply consistently in every game. Once Stephen Silas gets his charges to adopt those habits this team will be more competitive on a nightly basis.
All five starts plus Kenyon Martin Jr. (11) scored in double-figures led by Kevin Porter Jr. with 30 while Christian Wood produced a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds plus six assists and two blocks.
Jalen Green offered a jaw-dropping dunk and scored 18 points while Garrison Matthews (19) and Jae’Sean Tate (12) were the other double-figure contributors.
Eric Gordon (heel), Dennis Schroder (newly acquired), and Bruno Fernando (newly acquired) were all upgraded to probable while Usman Garuba (wrist) was downgraded to out versus the Jazz on Monday.
John Wall remains sidelined not playing with the team but healthy and having passed the trade deadline and since he’s not about to pass on his massive salary he sits in limbo.
Utah Jazz
It appears the Jazz have turned a corner after losing 11 of 13 contests as they enter this week on a five-game winning streak. Although they faced some lower-tier teams like the Magic, Knicks, and severely shorthanded Nets they also posted solid victories versus the Nuggets and Warriors.
This week is they’ll get an opportunity to build upon that streak with just two games including this match versus the Rockets and the suddenly flailing Lakers although the latter will be on the road.
Against the Magic, five Jazz players scored in double-figures led by Donovan Mitchell with 24 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Hassan Whiteside offered a double-double of 15 points and 18 rebounds along with two blocks.
Jordan Clarkson (18), Royce O’Neale (14), and Udoka Azubuike (12) were the other double-figure contributors. Newly acquired Nickeil Alexander-Walker played a single minute as Quin Snyder likely wants to ease him into the rotation after he learns the schemes.
Danuel House (shoulder) was upgraded to probable while Rudy Gobert (calf) and Eric Paschall (ankle) are questionable to play Monday versus the Rockets. Rudy Gay (knee) was downgraded to out.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Utah Jazz NBA Analysis:
Although it’s not inconceivable the Jazz could light up the Rockets to the tune of a 14.5 point differential I’m hesitant to take that direction.
Mostly because the Jazz tends to enjoy playing the up and down track meets and knowing they can lock down on defense for a quarter and win I think it’ll be under double-digits.
If Gobert returns maybe things shift but he still needs to shake off the rust so I’m taking the points and the Rockes.
