The bubble has seen some interesting results. At times Houston has looked like a team that might really challenge for the title this season.
San Antonio has changed the way they play and also put themselves into a position to possibly sneak into the playoffs.
Houston Rockets
Houston is pretty locked into their position with Oklahoma City looking like their first round opponent. As such these last couple of games are not critical.
What is critical is having Russell Westbrook healthy for their playoff run which is why I expect he will not suit up for this one. They did look pretty good without him in their last game, beating Sacramento.
Sinc the game is not very meaningful you have to wonder how much we see of James Harden. He is the team’s engine so if he sits things start to look very different.
No Westbrook has meant an opportunity for Ben McLemore. He has looked pretty good but is a different player and needs a guy like Harden on the floor to shine.
The Nuggets play very small, often with PJ Tucker at the 5 spot. In this game against San Antonio that is not actually much of a handicap.
Houston definitely looks like a fade here. Harden played 32 minutes in their last game and will probably play less in this one.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs in the playoffs has been a given for more than 20 years but for that to happen this season is going to take a little more work.
With Lamarcus Aldridge out they are playing with a much smaller lineup, using DeMar DeRozan as a power forward, if you have to assign him a position.
The results in the bubble have been good. DeRozan’s game actually fits that role even if he does not have he size/rebounding you want from that position
Jacob Poetl is not a refined scored like Aldridge but he can hold his own defensively and on the glass. He is a smart player who moves the ball too.
The key to this new lineup has been unlocking Derrick White and Dejounte Murray. White might miss this one due to injury but he has been very effective.
Not having white hurts but the Spurs have all of the motivation for this one and some bodies, like Murray, that can play solid defense on Harden when he is on the floor.
