Friday, February 4th, the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs play for the third time this season. The Southwest Division rivals will play a total of four times with the final match occurring in Houston on March 28th.
Each team has won once with Houston winning 128-124 on January 12th and San Antonio taking the January 25th match 134-104.
Houston last played on Wednesday defeating the Cavaliers 115-104 while the Spurs are playing a back-to-back opening with a 95-112 loss to the Heat on Thursday.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Spurs taking two of the three contests. The Spurs hold the all-time record with 113 wins in 205 matches versus the Heat.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets hadn’t won at the Toyota Center since December 8th prior to the win on Wednesday versus the Cavaliers. Coach Stephen Silas took an aggressive approach to get his players in the right mindset prior to the match.
Silas specifically outlined all the Rockets’ losses reviewing where the club needed to make tweaks and used it as motivation for his squad.
It worked with the Rockets netting the win and Christian Wood led the way with 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Rookie Jalen Green also scored 21 points adding five rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block.
Eric Gordon (16), Garrison Matthews (16), Eric Gordon (11), and Kenyon Martin Jr. were the other double-figure contributors.
Usman Garuba (wrist) is questionable for Friday versus the Spurs. The Rockets and John Wall agreed mutually for him to sit while the team develops their youth and the franchise hunts for a potential trade partner for him.
San Antonio Spurs
Entering Thursday one big question on everyone’s minds was whether Dejounte Murray would get recognized by the coaches as a member of the All-Star reserves.
Although he failed to get the nod, there is still a possibility he could be the injury replacement for Draymond Green who was named to the team but won’t be able to participate.
On the season, Murray is averaging 19.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and 2.0 steals. The point guard was out for the match versus the Heat on Thursday and the Spurs struggled to get much offense going without him.
Each of Doug McDermott (ankle), Murray (wrist), Jakob Poeltl (head), Josh Landale (head), and Keita Bates-Diop (conditioning) are listed as questionable for Friday but the big news is Zach Collins (conditioning) who has been out all season was upgraded to questionable.

Free Houston Rockets vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Analysis:
It’s sort of the best of the worst teams scenario as each of these clubs has had their moments this season netting quality wins against elite teams. The reality is they are developing young players on their rosters and no one (other than Murray) has ascended to the superstar level yet.
Houston has the rest advantage and the Spurs are 4-5 on second games of back-to-backs but I still like San Antonio to pull out the victory especially if they get the emotional edge of welcoming Zach Collins back to the court.
