Sunday, January 16th, finds the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings playing for the second of two games this week. The Kings won the initial match on Friday 126-114 while the Rockets will host two games on March 30th and April 1st to complete the season series.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Rockets winning two of the three contests. The Rockets hold the all-time record having bested the Kings in 137 of their 228 matches.
Houston Rockets
All five Rockets starters plus D.J. Augustin scored in double-figures on Friday but it wasn’t enough to capture the victory. Christian Wood led the way with 26 points and eight rebounds plus two steals and a block.
Jae’Sean Tate delivered a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds coming just shy of a triple-double with his eight assists with two steals, and a block.
Kevin Porter Jr. also had a big night with 16 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. Eric Gordon scored 16 points while rookie Jalen Green and vet Augustin each chipped in 11 points as the other double-figure contributors.
Alperen Sengun returned to the lineup after missing seven games in the NBA health and safety protocols bringing the Rockets bench to almost complete health. John Wall is out but that’s an agreed-upon situation and he’ll be the only Rockets player expected to be sidelined on Sunday.
Sacramento Kings
While Marvin Bagley’s experience with the Kings hasn’t always been pleasant, his interim head coach Alvin Gentry has been affording him more opportunity via extended playing minutes.
On Friday, his double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds led the way toward victory. Several Kings flirted with double-double performances with De’Aaron Fox producing 27 points and eight assists plus six assists and two steals.
Harrison Barnes registered 16 points and nine rebounds while Tyrese Haliburton produced nine points and 12 assists plus six rebounds. Buddy Hield and Terence Davis scored 19 points and 14 points respectively.
Tristan Thompson was out Friday with an illness and is questionable for Sunday. Richaun Holmes (conditioning) and Damian Jones (quarantine) are also questionable..

Free Houston Rockets vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
Both teams could be active at the trade deadline for very different reasons. The Rockets are rebuilding for the future while the Kings are desperate to get playoff experience even if it’s just one game in the play-in tournament after missing the last 15 postseasons.
Players who could be on the block are Eric Gordon and Christian Wood in Houston and depending on how the recent lockerroom dramatics went over possibly Porter Jr. as well.
The Kings on the other hand might not have any untouchable players and much would depend on whether the front office wants to continue to build around Fox or shift to featuring Haliburton as their main point guard. Bagley is definitely on the block with the likelihood Barnes and Buddy Hield are as well.
Suffice to say the Kings have more of a vested interest in winning this game and while the Rockets like to be competitive if Sacramento jumps on them early Houston isn’t likely to put up much of a fight to battle back.
