Monday, October 31st, 2022 the Houston Rockets and LA Clippers meet for the first time in a home and home series. The tip off Monday is set for 10:30 EST at Crypto.com Arena.
Houston will host the second game on Wednesday, November 2nd. Game three will be hosted by Houston on November 14th and game 4 in LA on January 15th.
Both teams arrive having played the front side of a back-to-back set on Sunday. The Rockets lost 109-124 to the Suns while the Clippers were routed 91-111 by the Pelicans.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Clippers sweeping the regular season series. The Rockets hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 124 of their 209 matches.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets finally collected their first win of the season defeating the red hot Utah Jazz 114-108 to start week two.
Unfortunately that giddy momentum failed to carry over as they went winless the rest of the week losing Wednesday to Utah (revenge game), Friday to the Blazers and Sunday to the Suns.
Houston allowed the Blazers and Suns to score 125 and 124 points respectively which contributed to the club plummeting down the ladder to rank 25th for opponent points allowed (119.1).
The Rockets rank 30th in opponent field goal percentage (49.7%) and a more respectable 19th for opponent perimeter field goal percentage (36.4%). Their defensive rank is 26th and despite their young athletic squad rank 28th offensively.
On a positive note, the Rockets lead the league in second chance scoring, rank eighth in rebound percentage and fourth in offensive rebound percentage.
Eric Gordon (groin) is questionable for Monday. Bruno Fernando (knee) is out until late November. TyTy Washington (knee) is out indefinitely.
LA Clippers
To say warning bells are going off in LA would be an understatement. Obviously the Clippers want to exercise caution with Kawhi Leonard given the severity of his injury.
Players returning from a torn ACL need to ease their way back so they don’t risk a set back or different injury due to compensating else (see Klay Thompson and his Achilles as an example).
It’s a given some people are faster healers than others. Think of when your family gets hit by the flu — inevitably there is always one family member up and about first and another who is bed ridden for days.
Players are no different and Leonard has typically taken longer to come back from injuries than the average time missed so this isn’t that surprising.
The greater concern is even with Paul George in the lineup and the majority of their very deep roster available the Clippers lost four games in a row including consecutive games to the Thunder (plus the Suns and Pelicans).
Robert Covington (illness) and Kawhi Leonard (knee) are questionable while John Wall (rest) is doubtful for Monday.

Free Houston Rockets vs. LA Clippers NBA Prediction:
Frankly, the Rockets are one of four teams (Spurs, Thunder, Jazz) that were expected to tank this season whereas the Clippers were among the four or five teams most frequently projected to win the Conference (Warriors, Suns, Nuggets, Mavericks).
The oddest part of LA’s struggles is how poorly they’ve played on the offensive end especially since the majority of this roster is returning from 2021-22.
It’s early so one solid week or mini win streak can shift their standing but the Clippers are essentially in a must-win scenario already. There roster is built to navigate injuries and load management so it’s time they deliver.
