Tuesday, April 5th, 2022, the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets meet for the second and final time this season. The Rockets won the initial meeting 114-104 on December 8th.
Houston last played Sunday losing 132-139 to the Timberwolves while the Nets last played Saturday losing a critical game 115-122 to the Atlanta Hawks.
Last season the clubs played twice times with Brooklyn winning both contests. The Rockets hold the all-time record having bested the Net in 65 of their 99 matches
Houston Rockets
The Rockets continue their season-long tanking mandate having lost 59 games to reside in a tie with the Magic for the bottom seed. But while the 20 win club continues to lose they’ve won three of their last eight matches.
Yet, there is good news in H-Town as Jalen Green who struggled early in the season and then got delayed due to injury is showing signs of why he ranked so high on most analysts’ draft boards.
The rookie has been on fire recently and making a late charge to be in consideration for one of the two All-NBA rookie teams. It’s doubtful he makes the first team but should draw strong consideration for the second team
Through the last six games, Green is averaging 29 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists and frequently throwing down spectacular flushes, — worthy of a dunk competition.
Eric Gordon (groin), Christian Wood (hamstring), and Dennis Schroder (shoulder) are all out indefinitely. John Wall (personal) remains shut down for the season as the Rockets gain experience for the youngsters.
Brooklyn Nets
When your superstar scores 55 points on 19 of 28 from the field and you still lose the game to say there are major red flags is an understatement.
While Kevin Durant was putting on a virtuoso performance versus the Hawks, shooting 19 of 28, Kyrie Irving helped scoring 31 points but took 30 shots to hit that mark.
Perhaps more concerning was Irving elected to call his own number late in the game instead of seeking out the red hot Durant. At the 5:26 mark of the final frame, KD hit a 3-pointer to draw the Nets within six.
Of the 11 attempted shots taken after that point in the game, Irving attempted six (made half) while KD went 3 of 3. There are nights when Irving is unstoppable, but given the importance of this match, it’s inconceivable that Durant who was on fire got only three shots.
One defensive possession in the loss to Atlanta highlighted the issues of this team. Trae Young initiates the play and when the ball returns to him standing alone at the top of the arc four Nets were standing in the paint.
And the player who finally made an effort to run out to defend the Hawks’ sharpshooter? — Durant who was the furthest away from the play.
Bruce Brown (illness) was upgraded to probable, Seth Curry (ankle) and James Johnson (illness) are questionable, and Goran Dragic (quarantine) is out Tuesday.
Ben Simmons (back/conditioning) is out indefinitely. Joe Harris (ankle) is done for the season.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
Theorthetically, this should be a Nets victory and mostly because the Rockets will be only too happy to play run and gun basketball.
Brooklyn is 2-4 in their last six matches and while everyone assumes they’ll win the play-in regardless of their seed relying solely on offense in a one-game elimination is flirting with disaster.
