Saturday, April 9th, the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs play for the fourth and final time this season.
Golden State leads the regular-season series 2-1 with victories on February 1st (124-120) and March 20th (110-108) while the Spurs won the December 4th (112-107) match.
Both teams last played on Thursday with Golden State defeating the Lakers 128-112 while the Spurs lost 121-127 to the Pelicans. They finish the season playing in a back-to-back set with the Warriors in New Orleans and the Spurs in Dallas.
Last season the clubs played three times with Golden State taking two of the three contests. The Spurs hold the all-time record with 113 wins in 178 matches versus the Warriors.
Golden State Warriors
The big question in the Bay is if and when Stephen Curry will return to the court. Since suffering an injury to his foot versus the Celtics on March 16th he’s missed the last 10 matches.
Early in his career, Curry dealt with copious ankle injuries and restructured his workouts and balance to lessen the chances of future injuries.
This recent injury was a freak accident but it could be the difference in whether the Dubs get past the first round or become quick fodder for their opponent.
Golden State has won three games in a row after a rough stint of seven losses in eight matches. Draymond Green is still finding his rhythm and legs after a disc injury kept him sidelined for 29 games.
Likewise, Klay Thompson is getting his rhythm and timing back after being off the court for more than two full seasons. Versus the Lakers Thompson resembled that pre-injury sniper scoring 33 points and connecting on 60 percent of his perimeter shots (6 of 10).
Klay Thompson (rest) and Stephen Curry (foot) are out. James Wiseman (knee) is done for the season.
San Antonio Spurs
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich could be tapped as the man who first made resting players ‘a thing’. Perhaps his front office was ahead of the trend recognizing the impact on athletes’ bodies of playing too many games in succession, travel, fatigue, etc.
As such, it’s not surprising he’s making the choice to sit much of his core group in these final two games. Sure, the Spurs have a slim chance of winning the right to host the play-in game but it relies on the Pelicans losing both games which is unlikely.
Lonnie Walker IV (back) and Josh Landale (foot) were upgraded to probable, Romeo Langford (hamstring) is questionable for Saturday
Dejounte Murray (illness), Jakob Poeltl (back), Keldon Johnson (knee), and Devin Vassell (heel) are all out versus the Warriors. Doug McDermott (ankle) is lost for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:

- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Golden State’s last 5 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 7 of San Antonio’s last 10 games.
- The Warriors are 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 games as a favorite.
- The Spurs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog.
Free Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Analysis:
The Warriors will start the playoffs at home but the seed has to be determined as they lead the Mavs by a half-game and can secure the third seed by winning out.
Dallas owns the tiebreak over them but Luka Doncic won’t play Sunday after picking up his 16th technical foul which will force him to serve a one-game suspension.
The fifth and sixth seeds are also up in the air, however, it’s likely the Jazz finish fifth since they own the tiebreak over Denver and both teams are playing easy squads Sunday (Lakers, Blazers respectively).
Golden State may have a preference for which team they prefer in the first round but are more likely aiming to remain third to avoid having to face the Suns until the Conference Finals.
