On Thursday, February 24th, the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers will meet for the third and final time this season. Golden State took the initial two meetings winning 118-103 on November 26th and 104-94 on December 8th.
The Blazers entered the break on a four-game winning streak with an impressive 123-119 victory versus the Grizzlies on the Wednesday prior to the break while the Warriors lost 116-117 to the Nuggets and entered the break losers of four out of their last five games.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Blazers winning two of three contests. The Blazers hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 129 of their 237 matches.
Golden State Warriors
If the All-Star Game was a sign of what is to come in the closing stretch it would seem Stephen Curry has broken out of his shooting slump as he hit 16 deep balls.
While the final stats weren’t as exciting he hit those 16 triples in 21 attempts only ruining the average by trying to break the all-time scoring record with Team Durant putting double-teams on him to finish the match.
The Warriors have the seventh most difficult strength of schedule for the stretch run with 14 road games including a four and five-game road trip and nine home games while they’ll play 12 teams seeded eighth or higher.
With the news, Chris Paul will miss up to two months due to a thumb fracture the Dubs will likely set their sights on grabbing that top seed both in the West and the league to garner home court throughout the playoffs.
During the All-Star break, Draymond Green suggested he was close to a return which was in line with what Steve Kerr suggested and his presence could be the difference in how the Dubs close out the stretch run.
Andre Iguodala (back) is questionable to play Thursday versus the Blazers. Draymond Green (calf) and James Wiseman (knee) are out indefinitely.
Portland Trail Blazers
One of the hottest teams entering the break was the Blazers who were defying the odds of winning after trading away core talents and with Damian Lillard still out rehabbing from abdominal surgery.
They reside in the final play-in spot (10th) with a two-game pad over the Spurs and 1.5 games back of the ninth-seeded Lakers. Helping their cause is they have the second-easiest strength of schedule to finish the season.
Of the 23 remaining games, 14 are on the road where the Blazers are 9-18 thus far with two five-game and one four-game road trip in the mix.
Their first six games are against top-eight seeds but then they play 14 of 15 against teams seeded ninth or lower so there is an opportunity to go on a big winning streak and climb higher.
However, they’ll begin the stretch run without another core starter as the team announced Jusuf Nurkic will miss the next month with plantar fasciitis.
Eric Bledsoe (Achilles) and Keon Johnson (ankle) are questionable for Thursday against the Warriors. Dennis Smith Jr. (elbow), Didi Louzada Silva (knee), and Damian Lillard (abdominal) are out indefinitely. Joe Ingles (ACL) and Nassir Little (shoulder) are out for the season.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Portland Trail Blazers NBA Prediction:
Given the Nurkic update, it would seem the Blazers are raising the tank flag but we’ll see if Chauncey Billups and Anfernee Simons got that memo.
