Friday, February 8 finds the Golden State Warriors facing the. Phoenix Suns as they meet for the third time in the 2018-19 regular season. In their last game on Wednesday, the Warriors crushed the Spurs 141-102. The Suns also played Wednesday in a resounding loss to the Blazers 116-88.
Golden State is on a current 17 game win streak over the Suns dating back to the 2014-15 season. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 137 of their 242 matches.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors were one of the few teams who remained idle at the trade deadline. Mind you when you can feature a starting rotation of five All-Stars and bring a Finals MVP off your bench there isn’t much tweaking necessary.
Six players produced double-digit efforts in the win Wednesday and 13 different players collecting minutes in the win. Klay Thompson led the way with 26 points, 6 assists, and a rebound.
Damian Jones remains out recovering from surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Unlike the Warriors, the Suns did make a move at the deadline although it didn’t feature the point guard they so desperately need. Instead, they add guard Tyler Johnson and perimeter sniper Wayne Ellington from the Miami Heat. Ellington is expected to be waived and will enter the buyout market as a highly sought after player.
Ryan Anderson leaves the Suns for South Beach. While Tyler Johnson’s contract is virtually the same price as Anderson ($19,245,370) with a player option in 2019-20 ($19,245,370) his age and potential ceiling have to be considered upgrades for Phoenix.
Johnson presence in the game is unknown given he was just traded and will need to go through his medical and team clearance first.
Devin Booker is nursing right hamstring tightness which caused him to miss the previous game and is questionable for Friday. De’Anthony Melton (right ankle sprain) will miss the game Friday as is T.J. Warren who continues to deal with soreness in his right ankle.
