Sunday, April 10th, finds the Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans playing for the third and final meeting this season. The teams have split the prior two matches with the Warriors winning on November 5th (126-85) and the Pelicans on January 6th (101-96).
Both teams are completing a back-to-back set with the Warriors beating the Spurs 100-94 while the Pelicans got pummelled 114-141 by the Grizzlies.
The Warriors hold the all-time record between the clubs with 42 wins in 66 meetings versus the Pelicans. Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors taking two of the three contests.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors had an early advantage removed with Luka Doncic was supposed to miss this final game due to picking up his 16th technical foul which is an automatic suspension.
The league rescinded that call which is good news – bad news. The good news is Doncic can play Sunday, but in reality, he carries those 15 technicals with him into the postseason so if he picks up another in the playoffs then he’ll have to sit out a game when they matter more.
While the Warriors are trying to nail down the third seed they don’t know who the fifth and sixth seeds are although it seems likely the Jazz will be fifth and the Nuggets sixth. Utah is playing the Blazers who’ve won twice since the break while the Nuggets face the Lakers.
Ironically, the Dubs might be better served to fall to fourth given their record against the Jazz is 3-1 versus the Nuggets who they lost the season series to 1-3.
As for injuries Curry (foot) is out and doesn’t appear close to returning which is concerning plus James Wiseman is done for the season due to his knee experiencing swelling when he attempted the comeback.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans have nailed down home court for the nine-ten play-in game which is a single-elimination match and will host the San Antonio Spurs.
New Orleans got blown out badly on Saturday by the Grizzlies which could factor in this match simply because they didn’t overtax any of their starters or core players so they might have fresher legs than the Warriors who also are playing on consecutive nights.
Brandon Ingram (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday versus the Warriors. Zion Williamson (foot) hasn’t played this season and while whispers grow that he could return he remains listed as out indefinitely on the injury report.
Kira Lewis Jr. (ACL) is lost for the season.
